Countdown viewers baffled by Anne Robinson's 'strange' sign-off for her final show | The Sun

COUNTDOWN viewers watched as legendary TV host Anne Robinson bid farewell to the show this week.

The 77-year-old presenter's time on the Channel 4 show recently came to an end, but she had a bit of an anti-climactic goodbye.

Anne, who has presented Countdown since June 2021, announced she would be leaving the show earlier this year.

Many of the show's loyal viewers expected a bit of a fuss to be made about the broadcaster's final episode.

However, there was seemingly no mention whatsoever that it was Anne's last day.

The star has only presented the show for a year, taking over from Nick Hewer.

During Nick's final episode presenting the show, he dedicated a moment at the end to talk about his time on Countdown.

He spoke about how much of a "pleasure" it had been working alongside Rachel Riley and Susie Dent for almost a decade.

Nick also introduced Anne as his successor and urged fans of the show to "be generous" towards her.

However, Anne's final episode didn't quite run the same way, with the start ending the show as she always would.

Just like normal, she thanked the show's guests, saying thanks to Susie as well as Jenny Ryan from The Chase.

She then handed over the Rachel who said thanks to the guests, before bidding a swift farewell.

Anne simply told the camera: "Thank you for watching, bye."

Many of the show's viewers were left baffled by the abrupt ending from Anne.

They wondered why she hadn't had a proper send-off.

One wrote on Twitter: "A lowkey bye from Anne. Not one mention that it was her last show #Countdown."

A second commented: "No mention of Anne Robinson’s last #Countdown on the show".

Another fan added: "She was given no fanfare or heartfelt goodbye it seems."

One viewer suggested there was some "coldness" towards the ending.

Succeeding Anne as a presenter is Colin Murray, who has already started his stint as a stand-in host.

Rachel Riley took to Twitter to wish him well.
