EastEnders fans were left screaming at their TV screens as Cindy Beale made her highly anticipated return to the soap.

The character’s return had been teased for some time with many predicting she was the mystery identity of George Knight’s wife, Rose, who disappeared without explanation ten years ago.

As tonight’s episode drew to a close, George was seen calling Rose on a whim after Phil discovered she had lied about her identity to him.

As the final scene aired, a woman’s hand grabbed her phone, showing George as the caller ID.

Sat beside a swimming pool sipping on wine, Cindy Beale’s face was finally revealed.

“EASTENDERS OMG I SCREAMED,” said one fan.

“OMG I wasnt expecting that, Cindy Beale I thought she was dead!! But noone is dead in #Eastenders,” penned a second.

“The rumours are true. I knew Cindy’s return being announced just before the ‘Rose Knight’ mystery storyline starting wasn’t a coincidence. She’s back!” a third added.

Viewers last night saw Phil continue his investigation into George Knight’s mystery ex after Linda raised her suspicions and urged him to seek out the truth about her.

After Phil convinced Callum to search the police database, he told Phil all information about her had been blocked.

He was later paid a visit by the Serious Crimes Unit, warning him not to search for her name and forget anything to do with her.

The curious exchange left Callum baffled and Phil and Linda determined to fine the truth about her.

Elsewhere on the episode, Ravi Gulati had issued a menacing threat to Finlay Baker ordering him to keep silent about Vinny;s shocking crime.

Earlier in the week, Vinny had deliberately tampered with the brakes on Finlay's car, well aware that Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) had intended to drive it.

Vinny's malicious plan stemmed from his anger over Eve's affair with his mother, Suki, and even after Suki ended their relationship, he refused to let go of his resentment.

Suki discovered what Vinny had done, and headed to the garage to slash one of the tyres to keep Eve safe. But it wasn't long before Keanufigured out what had been done to the car and told Finlay, who was spooked that someone had seemingly tried to kill him.

He soon found Vinny's necklace by the car. Suki ordered step-son Ravi to find a way to stop Finlay from going to the police, saying she didn't care how he did so.
