EastEnders viewers emotional as Lola’s heartbreaking funeral date is confirmed

EastEnders fans are gearing themselves up for a particularly heart-shredding episode later this month, when Lola Pearce's funeral will unfold on screen.

Monday's instalment of the BBC soap confirmed June 27 as the date to put in your diaries, as Ben Mitchell revealed as much to Lola's devastated mum Kathy and future stepdad Rocky.

Over on Twitter, the general consensus is that viewers still aren't ready to say goodbye to Danielle Harold's beloved character, who passed away at the end of last month from terminal cancer.

"Lola's funeral on Tuesday 27th June 2023. I'm not ready", "Lola's funeral date confirmed [crying emoji]" and "Lola's funeral is two weeks from tomorrow, I can’t believe she’s gone," read several reactions after these scenes had aired.

In the OK! review, Lola's death was described as "gut-wrenching" while the episode itself unravelled as a "fitting tribute to a feisty favourite".

Meanwhile, actress Danielle, 31, broke her silence on shooting Lola's final scenes back in April with a lengthy statement accompanied by a shot of her being visited by Callum Highway, Jay Brown and Ben in hospital.

"Lola’s story has been a very hard one to tell and one that means so much to me and sadly affects so many people," it began. "Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet historically only 1% of research is allocated to this devastating disease.

"I would like to take a moment for everybody that has reached out to me and shared their experiences with me, I have read every message And hold all of your messages close to my heart whilst playing this story.

"I have been blessed to meet the most incredible people and work with some wonderful charities along the way and I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for all your support advise and love."

This poignant message was appreciated by many of her Walford co-stars, with Max Bowden sweetly replying: "Our girl. YOU have helped save people’s lives. And are giving the greatest performance. An absolute beacon and a superstar."

Honey Mitchell portrayer Emma Barton added: "Words cannot express how I feel about you darling one… you are a masterpiece, talent, true, honest & WOW!" before Nick Nevern came back with: "Love you babe… you have done an amazing job with this storyline."
