Emmerdale spoilers see 13 explosive storylines and twists for 50th anniversary

Emmerdale's anniversary episodes are getting ever closer and anticipation has been building for weeks ,with spoilers and teasers being released ahead of what is set to be a stormy celebration.

This week, fans have been given their first glimpse at what to expect in the upcoming 50th anniversary episode and need to be braced for the possibility of multiple deaths in the village.

Show runners previously revealed the village will be changed forever as a devastating storm hits the Dales, kickstarting a chain reaction of events that will change the Dales forever.

Here's a rundown of all the teasers and twists we know about so far…

1. Celebrations will last the whole month

Rather than one big episode, the Emmerdale team are marking the 50th anniversary with a month of drama.

Producer Kate Brooks told OK!: "There's always an element of pressure to make sure that people enjoy what you're doing and make sure they enjoy the show to the full capacity.

"But this is very much a different kettle of fish, in that it's the 50th and it's a month of celebration. It's not just about the stunt, even though the stunt will be amazing and incredible and people will hopefully love watching it.

"There's a whole array of different stories, which will really showcase Emmerdale in all its glory."

2. Prepare for an hour long special

Emmerdale's 50th anniversary is Sunday 16 October and even though the soap doesn't usually go out on the weekends, ITV are making an exception and bosses have confirmed there will be an hour-long episode on this date.

3. Faith's last days

Faith Dingle's illness has already led to some heartbreaking scenes and executive producer Jane Hudson explained: "As we start our birthday month, we'll be focusing on our Faith storyline, which is a huge storyline for us at the moment.

"Then we will work our way into our storm week. The Faith story is such an emotional and heartbreaking story. It's going to be huge across our 50th.

"I think everybody involved in that story is pulling out some of the most amazing performances I've seen in soap for a long time. So that's got a huge part to play."

4. The big storm

Fans got a first look at the aftermath of the storm this week as Emmerdale released an image showing total the destruction, and Jane previously teased explained: "It's safe to say that the village will never be the same after this. The impact this storm has on people's lives is just massive. That is our big set-piece stunt.

"In terms of filming, it's quite unprecedented, the scale of what we are doing. There are elements of the big storm week that I've not seen on a soap drama before and it's very exciting and nerve-wracking to be part of that. Hopefully it'll all be brilliant."

"It's fair to say that every story has been done in soaps and we always come at it from a place where we think: 'How do we make it feel like this story has never been done? How do make it feel different? How do we make it look different?'

"One of the things we were very keen to do, firstly, was make sure that our storm was in the daytime so you can actually see what is happening and what's going on. The whole storm takes place in one day and across three or four episodes.

"It's all in daytime, it's very much a wind storm, not a rain storm. We have some amazing wind machines that are being tested at the minute, which are epic."

5. Aaron Dingle

Emmerdale's Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle on the soap, has revealed he would be up for a permanent return to the ITV soap after his character left in emotional scenes last year.

Following the murder of his boyfriend Ben Tucker by evil serial killer Meena Jutla Aaron left the village, but now actor Danny is back on the soap to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Speaking to OK! and other press ahead of the episodes, he said: "Obviously never did I imagine that I'd be going on I'm A Celebrity, and everything that happened there. I never imagined that I'd kind of be coming back for a long period of time so soon.

Producer Kate Brooks added: "Aaron comes back to the show ostensibly to see Faith, but obviously there's a lot of loose ends to tie up with Liv.

"They left things on quite bad terms, so there's lots to explore between that brother and sister dynamic."

6. Aaron and Terry

In dramatic scenes, Terry lurks as Liv Dingle returns home to find Terry waiting for her and demands she retract her statement to the police.

As Liv fights against Terry, he ends up knocking her down as she falls she hits her head on the table and falls unconscious. Terry panics and looking to bolt, he runs straight into a familiar face. Her brother Aaron Dingle.

The fallout continues as Sandra's sidekick Terry breaks into Mill Cottage and tries to force Liv to retract her statement to the police.

And when Terry turns violent and Liv is left in peril, Aaron returns at just the right time.

7. Aaron, Chas and Al

Developments are on the way for the Chas and Al storyline too as show producer Jane teased: "Aaron's back and how is he going to respond when he finds out that his mum is cheating on Paddy, who he sees as a father?"

8. Tracy is back

Another familiar face making an appearance for the 50th anniversary episodes is Tracey Metcalfe, played by Amy Walsh. Jane Hudson said: "Tracy is coming back with a bit of news of her own. How is Nate going to respond to that?"

Kate Brooks added: "Diane, Aaron and Tracy will all be making a reappearance, albeit on a temporary basis.

"But they'll come back and be at the heart of some really big stories that'll impact their lives, and not just their lives but the lives of the characters they leave behind. It's all really exciting and brilliant."

9. And so is Diane

Emmerdale boss Jane explained: "We always wanted to try and bring back some of our loved characters during the 50th.

"Diane's a Sugden and she was in the show for so many years. We absolutely adore the character and we adore the actress, Liz.

"It just felt fitting to bring her back – that old soul, the person who knows the village the best, who can be a support to many different characters on many different levels.

10. Amelia

Amelia's pregnancy has been fraught with paternity scandals and it looks like the end of the pregnancy will be just as fraught as Jane told OK!: "Amelia is due soon. Whether or not she has the baby in the 50th celebration month, I’m obviously not going to tell you.

"But Amelia does play a very big part in the storm and when she needs to be found because she's stuck on her own. So she does play a very big part. You'll just have to wait and see."

11. Harriet vs Kim

Katherine Dow Blyton, who plays Harriet, recently told OK! and other media: "I'm involved [in the anniversary] because Harriet has once again got herself mixed up with men problems.

"So she's involved because she's getting wrapped up in Will's life, a little too much than she should be. That has an impact on his upcoming nuptials.

"I'm really playing with fire there. But it's last chance saloon, she's got to make her feelings known before he walks down the aisle and that's it.

"Harriet is no Kim Tate but they are both feisty women and able to look after themselves so there will be more fireworks. They will have their moments."

Producer Jane added: "Kim will overhear Harriet declare undying love for Will, so obviously that will inspire a lot of fireworks."

12. Someone could be going to jail

Jane teased: "When we get to the end of October, it might be the end of our celebrations, but we will be ending that month with a storyline which kicks off another big story, which potentially sees one of our characters spending the rest of their life in jail.

"I am not going to tell you anything else. We are making sure that when our celebration month ends, it's really just the beginning of a whole new chapter, particularly for one of our families."

13. Nate, Sam and Belle

Jane told press: "Then there is a story that involves Nate, Sam and Belle, which is the one only Emmerdale can do and that's going to dominate quite a lot of the 50th as well."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
