Emmerdale star hints that Nicola won't get justice for horrific attack

Nicola King’s (Nicola Wheeler) life was turned upside down a few months ago when she was the victim of a horrific and unprovoked attack in Emmerdale.

It happened in a multi-storey carpark. Nicola was walking back to her car after time with Bernice (Samantha Giles) and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy), only to be approached by a group of girls who ended up beating and leaving her for dead.

During the initial aftermath, Nicola struggled with PTSD and panic attacks, fearing the gang would return to attack her again – and then she came face to face with one of the members.

Naomi (Karene Peter) – Charles’ (Kevin Mathurin) daughter – turned out to be the girl in the trainers who briefly appeared in the closing scenes of Nicola’s ordeal and since then, she’s found it challenging to settle into the village, knowing residents already have an opinion of her.

Next week, the group of girls, Naomi and Nicola all head to court as the investigation into the attack reaches a conclusion – but how will the final scenes of this storyline play out?

‘The one huge thing that Nicola has to concede to is she doesn’t actually remember any of them’, actress Nicola Wheeler recently told us.

‘She remembers Naomi’s shoes, she recognised her voice, but no idea in what context Naomi took part. She can only take Naomi’s word for the fact that she didn’t lay a kick in, but she doesn’t know that. She can’t actually accuse Naomi of doing it because she doesn’t know. She can’t be certain it was Saskia. She can look at the girl and go ‘It looks similar to her.’ And this is the problem she has, that all Nicola is going on is a feeling and she’s going off instinct that these girls are guilty but she doesn’t have any concrete evidence.

‘That becomes more and more apparent and then we have that the girls change their story, which is a surprise to both Naomi and Nicola, they say that Naomi and other friends were part of this attack but not them. And that throws a complete spanner in the works, and you’re left with both Nicola and Naomi believing that justice isn’t going to be served and they’re going to get away with it.’

So, if Nicola and Naomi reach the same thought in that maybe justice won’t be served after all, could they find further common ground?

‘I think for Nicola to get closure there has to be some kind of forgiveness or some kind of line drawn under the whole event’, Nicola adds.

‘It does have to be on Nicola’s terms but Naomi’s an intelligent girl and she knows that. I think now Nicola’s attitude is she’s hoping during the court case that Naomi does serve some time because as far as Nicola’s concerned the fact that you stood there doesn’t make you innocent. As far as Nicola’s concerned what Naomi has done has helped the girls to be convicted, because without Naomi’s testimony the girls would never be in court because Nicola’s evidence is not enough.

‘Nicola can begrudgingly appreciate that, but as far as she’s concerned she thinks Naomi isn’t blameless. As far as Nicola’s concerned, she’s guilty by association.’
