Faith (played by Sally Dexter) has shown a determination to make the most of her last days as she succumbs to her illness. But on Monday’s episode of the ITV soap, she revealed she couldn’t go on deteriorating and pleaded with Moira (Natalie J. Robb) to help her reach the end a bit quicker to prevent any further pain. But could Emmerdale stalwart Cain (Jeff Hordley) find out that Moira may have helped her? If so, it’s likely the couple’s relationship will be left damaged beyond repair.
Monday’s instalment saw the tragic story unfolding further when Faith continued to ask Moira if she had decided to assist her.
Moira was hesitant and worried about betraying Cain, so she tried to coax his views on the situation without giving too much away.
“Your mum’s got a lot to deal with,” she told Cain when they were together later.
She added: “You know, all of this has got me thinking about my mum.
“About what Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) did, keeping me away from her.
“He kind of protected me.” Confused, Cain replied: “In a pretty screwed up way.”
“Yeah, but at least he didn’t let me see her suffering,” Moira pointed out.
She continued: “It’s bittersweet I suppose, but my final memories of her are as she was, stern but smiley.”
“There’s no way Mackenzie did you a favour,” Cain insisted sternly.
“Well, maybe not,” Moira agreed. “But at least he made sure someone was there.
“Because someone has to be there, don’t they?” To which Cain replied: “Yeah, obviously.”
“Would you put your kids through that?” Moira asked.
Shaking his head, Cain remarked: “I wouldn’t want them sat around watching me die.”
He added: “I mean it. I don’t want the last thing I see to be their hearts breaking.”
“Like yours now, you mean?” Moira observed. She later told Faith about her concerns.
A tearful Faith understood Moira’s point, and said: “I should never have asked you.”
“I won’t help you do it, but of course, I’ll be there,” Moira sobbed, agreeing to be by Faith’s side if she takes action herself.
“You don’t know what this means,” Faith cried. “It’ll be our secret.”
Although she decided she doesn’t want to help Faith die, Moira could change her mind once she sees how much pain Faith is in.
After the emotional conversation, it seemed Moira was still in two minds about helping Faith to end her life.
It’s likely she will be talked into it, despite her reservations about betraying Cain.
With Faith’s mind firmly made up, Moira will probably realise if she doesn’t help her, Faith might decide to go through with the decision alone.
Although she was grateful for Moira’s offer to be there, Faith might decide it will be too hard to go through with her decision if she has to do it to herself, especially with someone watching.
Wanting to avoid Faith dying alone, it’s possible Moira will change her mind and offer to help the suffering woman put an end to her struggles.
With Cain’s thoughts on this made clear by the conversation about Mackenzie, he is unlikely to take it well if he ever finds out.
Additionally, he will likely be fuming to discover Moira didn’t talk Faith out of her decision.
Although they have vowed to keep it between themselves, the truth will probably end up coming out.
With Cain grieving and heartbroken, he might make the drastic decision to end things with Moira once the revelation is made.
Will the couple be torn apart for good?
Emmerdale continues on Tuesday at 7.30pm on ITV.
