Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) have decided they should get a divorce, but she has been really struggling underneath the surface. Liam has been asked to spend Christmas Day with multiple villagers, and ITV soap spoilers have revealed he and Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) share a secret kiss as they are caught up in the festivities. Meanwhile, Leyla is forced to spend Christmas alone – will she confront Liam over the kiss?
On Christmas Day, Liam starts his first visit of the morning over at the Dingle’s abode.
Knowing he has two more trips to make around the village, the doctor tries to turn down a plate of food but has no luck.
Already full to the brim from the festive food at the Dingles, Liam arrives at Holdgate for his second visit of the day.
However, he is stunned to see a table with mountains of food.
Hauling himself down the street after eating and drinking too much at Rishi Sharma’s (Bhasker Patel), Bernice tells him they’ve saved him some Christmas dinner.
She takes a tea towel off a plate piled high with food and Liam, being polite, knows what he has to do.
Meanwhile, Liam’s soon-to-be ex-wife Leyla closes the door behind her as she can hear the noise of the festive celebrations trickling in.
The heartbroken character then eats a tragic Christmas meal all alone as she misses Liam.
Over at Brook Cottage, Liam and Bernice share a charged moment which ends with a Christmas smooch.
Has Liam bitten off more than he can chew as this is the second time they have shared a kiss this year?
Later on, Bernice gets annoyed when Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) starts interfering and she feels as though the whole village is treating her menopause as a joke.
Bernice starts wallowing in self-pity and struggles with her menopause symptoms before agreeing to seek help.
Feeling the conversation around menopause needs a makeover, Bernice senses a project coming on.
Will she start a campaign group to raise awareness about the menopause?
Bernice opened up about her symptoms to Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) in recent weeks.
She admitted: “I wanted the ground to swallow me up.
“I’ve been feeling rubbish for weeks and I convinced myself it was something else but I haven’t had a period for four months.
“I knew I couldn’t possibly be pregnant but I was hoping to God it wasn’t this.”
Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) reminded Bernice half of the population goes through the menopause to which Bernice replied: “I’ve noticed men don’t get it because if they did there would be a cure.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
