Good Morning Britain’s Laura Tobin replaced by EastEnders star and fans can’t believe his age

Good Morning Britain viewers woke up to a "ray of sunshine" this morning (September 16) when a familiar soap star stood in for the usual weather presenter, Laura Tobin.

Des Coleman hosted today's weather forecast to the delight of viewers who took to Twitter to praise him as a presenter. The popular weatherman is of course familiar to viewers having had career as an actor, even landing a role in EastEnders playing Lenny Wallace from 1996 to 1999.

After leaving Albert Square, Des went on to appear in Casualty, The Bill and even appeared in the West End before training with the Met Office and moving into weather presenting.

Today he replaced Laura Tobin, 40, at the weather wall and as a firm favourite with viewers has also previously stood in for the GMB weather presenter Alex Beresford.

One viewer wrote: "Yay, Des is back" while another added: "Love seeing our Des on GMB."

A third said: "People think they're cool and then see @DESCOLEMAN doing the weather and realise what cool really is."

Others remarked on how well the star has aged, with one even posting: "Bloody hell, Des is 60."

Des's career in weather started at the BBC in 2007 training with the Met Office.

In his Twitter bio he describes himself as "Former welder & West End performer. Ex-Eastender! Previous BBC & current ITV weather presenter. Event host and vocalist".

He joined the ITV weather team in 2016 and regularly fronts forecasts for Central, the broadcaster's Midlands operation.

Des wore black today along with his fellow Good Morning Britain presenters as the country continues its period of national mourning for the late Queen.

HostSusanna Reid today revealed that she spent seven hours and 20 minutes queuing to pay her respects as the Lying-In-State.

Posting to Twitter, the journalist and TV presenter shared some tips for other royal mourners who are planning to join the queue in the next couple of days.

She began her thread writing: “Evening – along with my lovely mum and her very good friend, I have just experienced a moment in history – witnessing the Queenlying in state in Westminster Hall. At once majestic and peaceful.”

She wrote: “If you are planning to queue here are our tips. We joined at 1.23pm near Butlers Wharf and entered Westminster Hall at 8.43pm – 7 hours 20 mins.

“Wear the comfiest shoes you own. Go with someone if you can, although everyone in the queue was friendly.

“Don’t carry too much in a bag – water is freely available and there are lots of cafes along the route. Also plenty of toilets. I put my phone on low battery mode and it lasted the entire time.”

This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were also there. Both appeared sombre as they queued up to pay their respects in front of the Queen's coffin which is Lying-in-State in Westminster Hall.

Both were dressed in black and had lanyards around their necks, which could be press access to see the Queen Lying-in-State.

Holly, 41, wore a buttoned-up dress with silver buttons and she donned a black face mask, whilst Phillip, 60 stood behind her wearing a dark suit and a very solemn expression.

Their appearance to pay their respects to the Queen at Westminster Hall came as Friday's This Morning was cancelled in favour of rolling ITV news coverage of the Queen.

Members of the public have been queueing up to pay their respects to the late Monarch as her coffin lies in Westminster Hall. The Queen passed away aged 96 on Thursday, 8 September after an incredible 70 year reign.
