‘Hercules’ Live-Action Movie Faces Backlash After Being Described as Inspired by TikTok

In a new interview, producer Joe Russo also confirms that the Guy Ritchie-directed project will be a musical and ‘a little bit more experimental’ than Disney’s past live-action adaptations.

AceShowbiz -New details about “Hercules” live-action movie have caused backlash on social media. The upcoming Disney film landed in hot water after producer Joe Russo described the project as “experimental” and inspired by TikTok.

In a new interview with Variety, Joe said that the Guy Ritchie-directed feature will be “a little bit more experimental in tone, a little bit more experimental in execution” than past live-action adaptations. “I think they’re excited to see what we can all bring to it in a way that isn’t just a reinterpretation of the animated film,” he said.

“Guy is perfect for it because he has penchant for experimentation,” Joe said, before confirming that the live-action will also be a musical as saying, “There are questions about how you translate it as a musical.”

Joe later stated that the adaptation is inspired by TikTok. “Audiences today have been trained by TikTok, right? What is their expectation of what that musical looks like and feels like? That can be a lot of fun and help us push the boundaries a little bit on how you execute a modern musical,” he shared.

Soon after the interview was published, fans of the beloved 1997 animated film took to Twitter to voice their dismay, with many predicting the reimagining will be a total “disaster.” One person tweeted, “potentially worst movie ever made incoming, it’ll do gangbusters.” Another added, “Oh this is going to be a disaster.”

” ‘Audiences today have been trained by TikTok’ sounds like the premise of a horror film,” someone else chimed in. A separate person said, “This sounds…..I must stress this …. absolutely s**t.” A different user opined, “Once again, instead of focusing on making a great movie, we are turning attention to a quick flash of social media popularity.”

It was revealed in 2020 that Disney had plans to produce a live-action adaptation of the 1997 animated classic “Hercules”. Then earlier this year, it was confirmed that Guy would helm the project.
