Hope Street renewed: BBC daytime drama to return for third series

Hope Street will be returning to our screens for a third series, it has been confirmed.

The BBC One daytime drama, which centres on the lives of residents and the police department of seaside town Port Devine, proved incredibly popular with viewers in the UK and beyond.

The first series focused on the arrival of the mysterious Leila Hussain (Amara Karan), whose presence got tongues wagging in the sleepy little town, while the second, which is currently airing on BBC One, saw new detective Al Quinn (Stephen Hagan) join the police force, causing quite the stir.

If you’re enjoying your weekly Friday visits to Port Devine as much as we are then we bring you good news, as Hope Street is set to return for a third series, this time with an extended run of 15 episodes.

Our hearts are full.

The third season will commence filming this month, and will revisit the trials and tribulations of the Port Devine police department, while also exploring more about the personal lives of those on the force.

Ciaran McMenamin will be reprising his role as Inspector Finn O’Hare, with Bríd Brennan (Concepta O’Hare), Des McAleer (Barry Pettigrew), Kerri Quinn (Marlene Pettigrew), Niall Wright (Callum McCarthy), Aaron McCusker (Clint Dunwoody), Niamh McGrady (Nicole Devine), Rachel Tucker (Siobhan O’Hare), Sade Malone (Taylor Quinn), Louis McCartney (Shay O’Hare) and Ellie Lavery (Niamh O’Hare) all set to return.

A number of new faces are set to be announced soon.

Paul Marquess, the show’s creators and one of its producers said: ‘We are so excited to be making our third trip to beautiful Port Devine – and we’re delighted that BBC Northern Ireland, BBC Daytime and BritBox International have ordered more episodes this time round.

‘We’ve been so lucky to work with hugely talented cast, writers, directors and crew – and the continuing popularity of Hope Street is a testament to all their hard work.’

Helen Munson, Commissioning Editor, BBC Daytime says: ‘Fans of Hope Street who are just settling into series two on BBC Daytime will be delighted to know that another series is on the way!

‘We are excited to be working with Long Story TV again who bring so much expertise and passion into creating brilliant crime stories for our audience.’

Reemah Sakaan, CEO BritBox International, said: ‘Building on its strong and sustained success, we are thrilled to welcome Hope Street back for a third season, working with the BBC and Long Story TV. The series offers a fresh twist on the much-loved crime drama genre, in a stunning setting, and has built a large and loyal international fanbase on BritBox.’

Hope Street continues Fridays at 1:45pm on BBC One or stream the whole second series on BBC iPlayer right now.
