Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) was given heartbreaking news this week in Emmerdale as he learnt Reuben, his baby son, was in hospital with meningitis.

Reuben’s mum, Chloe (Jessie Elland), was initially planning on moving to Scotland after her baby’s birth, as she was struggling with the usual challenges that come with being a new mum and the fact that she has to keep Mackenzie’s secret from Charity (Emma Atkins).

However, after Liam (Jonny McPherson) checked a poorly Reuben over, Chloe had to cancel her flight as the baby needed to be taken to A&E.

Once Mack (and the rest of the village) learnt the news, he headed to the hospital to try and see his son, but he lied to the nurse and said he’s a family friend and not the father, which meant he couldn’t visit.

In this new video, Mackenzie isn’t in the mood for working on the farm.

Nate (Jurell Carter) – who knows all about Mack’s secret – tries to tell his mate to go and visit Reuben, if he’s so important to him.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Mackenzie knows that if he got the slightest bit closer to finding out about Reuben’s health, it would increase the chance of Charity finding out the truth – which is going to happen very soon.

In the aftermath, the characters will be a part of a scene that ‘has never been done before’ in soapland.

‘There’s a moment in the village where we bump into each other and Mackenzie doesn’t know that Charity knows and that’s magical,’ Emma Atkins explained. ‘I loved filming that.’

‘That [scene] was great,’ Lawrence Robb added. ‘And then there’s a scene immediately after that that we all shot together and that was a rewarding experience for us all.’
