I'm a body language expert – Holly and Phil are distant after queue-gate – interactions at NTAs were disingenuous | The Sun

A BODY language expert has claimed there was "distance" between Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield at the NTAs – and their interactions were "disingenuous".

The TV behaviourist Darren Stanton says the pair's relationship has deteriorated since the last awards do.

It comes after apparent "tensions" between the This Morning hosts when they got backlash over skipping the queue to see the Queen lying-in-state.

They have put on a united front ever since – but Darren believes their body language revealed what's really going on behind the scenes when they were booed on stage last night.

Speaking to The Sun on behalf of Slingo, Darren said: “It was interesting to see the body language between Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby when it was announced This Morning had won.

"There appeared to be a certain decrease in rapport between the presenters and they exchanged a number of smiles that at face value seemed sincere, but lacked genuine emotion.

“Naturally, Phil gave Holly a hug as the two celebrated their win, however, it was interesting to see as they rose to their feet, Holly held out her hand to Phil and he declined to hold it.

"Instead, we saw him pull at his jacket. Holly was then seen holding on to Phil’s arm as they made their way up to the stage – this is a classic gesture we make when we’re looking for reassurance or support.

"While Phil at one point did have his arm around Holly, you'll notice there was still a slight distance between them.

“We didn’t see the same degree of connection that we usually see from Holly and Phil. Instead we saw a different dynamic and the pair were slightly subdued.

"Interestingly, Phil was seen grabbing Alison and pushing her centre stage in front of the microphone – physically stepping back as if to say he didn’t want to be in the spotlight.

"What struck me about Holly was that her smiles were very far removed and she was seen placing her hands in front of her several times which is a self-reassurance gesture.

"There appeared to be a lack of confidence about her when in front of the camera, which we’re not used to seeing with her.”

NTA viewers slammed the ITV show as a "fix" after the channel's daytime show This Morning won the gong – despite the recent controves

The presenters ignored boos as they delivered a winning speech on stage.
