The aspiring professional singers faced a tough wait as the judges began to select their teams from the people they turned their chairs for. Will.i.am was the first to make a decision, and opted to pick Noeva as his first semi-finalist, but his decision was met with criticism from ITV viewers, who believed he should have selected somebody else.

The callbacks finally started after Tom Jones managed to fill his group with his chosen singers.

The next level of the competition saw the judges grouping their acts together in several groups before selecting just one from each.

After watching the first four of his singers competing, the former Black Eyed Peas star had come to a decision.

“The singer I’m putting through to the semi-finals is Noeva,” he revealed.

As the other three acts applauded, the Noeva became emotional.

“Thank you,” she commented. Speaking to the camera, she admitted: “I was not expecting him to pick me.

“I just thought of my daughter, so that’s why I started crying.

“But I’ve made my daughter proud… yeah, I’ve made her proud.”

Several viewers were disgruntled by the rapper and song writer’s choice.

Twitter user @GP_L_Baker argued: “She was awful…bloke was the best #thevoiceuk.”

@lukelewin_ asked: “Will what have you dooooooone #TheVoice #thevoiceuk.” (sic)

“Oh FFS! That’s it! I’m out… Turning over ! #TheVoiceUK,” fumed @JillHudson21.

@e1jaat commented: “Personally I liked the first boy and the last girl #thevoiceuk.”

@itsamy_xo shared: “What is this new system? I liked the battle.. they were more fun & tbh, that was the wrong choice from Will, imo #TheVoiceUK.” (sic)

Others disagreed though, with some pleased by Will’s decision to bring Noeva through.

@DanJBrownMUFC posted: “I am pleased for Noeva, she shone for me again there. #TheVoiceUK.”

@craggsy82 added: “Noeva is stunningly good. Levels above. #TheVoiceUK.”

Will.i.am enlisted the help of singer David Guetta to help him make his decisions.

The judges will have to continue whittling down their singers as of next week when the competition continues.

The Voice returns on Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
