ITV News’ Geraint Vincent’s emotional tribute to Emily Morgan

Emily was ITV News Health and Science Editor and had worked for ITN for 23 years, with her work being described as “instrumental” in exposing the pressure NHS workers were under during the Covid pandemic.
ITN tweeted out the news of Emily’s death which read: “We are devastated at the passing of our remarkable colleague Emily Morgan.
“Emily was a hugely talented journalist and a much-loved friend and mentor to so many here. She will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with Emily’s family.”
At the end of Saturday night’s ITV News at 10, Geraint informed his viewers of the sad news and struggled to choke back his tears, paying tribute to his colleague.
Composing his breath, he said: “Now, we regularly report upsetting events that affect people’s lives. Tonight we have something to report that has affected all of us at ITV News very deeply.
“It is the death after a short illness of our on-screen colleague and much-loved friend Emily Morgan our much-loved health and science editor.
“Emily worked here for 23 years first behind the scenes as a producer, but for most of that time lighting up our programmes every day as a political and then health reporter.
“At 45 years old, she was at the very top of her game as anyone who followed her peerless reporting of the Covid pandemic will remember well.
“But she was also, as she wanted the world to know, a mum to her two cherished daughters, a wife, a sister and a daughter herself and it is with all of her family that our thoughts are with tonight.”

Viewers of the show were quick to praise Geraint on how well he kept his composure and how proud Emily would have been.
Taking to their Twitter, Sohail Shah commented: “Geraint Vincent just broke my heart with that tribute to Emily Morgan. Understandably, he looked so upset.”
Julie Asher-Smith added: “Geraint Vincent did well to hold it together tonight. Very sad news indeed.”
Malcolm Lee penned: “Such sad news. Just watched Geraint Vincent’s lovely tribute on ITV news to Emily, could see how upset he was too but well done for managing to get through it.”
Jody Merelle said: “The genuine emotion seen in the face of Geraint Vincent just now over the passing of his colleague Emily Morgan said more than any words could have done. Beautifully done on a very sad day.”
