James Corden disappoints fans as One Direction fails to reunite

James Corden brings his Late Late Show to an end

The Late Late Show has sparked a backlash amongst fans who were hoping a One Direction reunion would round out James Corden’s talk show stint.

1D fans had whipped themselves into a frenzy over a potential comeback during Thursday night’s farewell episode after the host joked about “kidnapping” members of the band.

However, the fanbase promptly took to Twitter in disappointment when the rest of the boyband failed to make an appearance.

“When James Cordon did not kidnap One Direction on the final Late Late Show with Harry Styles and force a reunion,” @Jaelyndamelio said, adding a broken heart and clown emojis.

@thisisveronique posted an image of a man crying and wrote: “Me after there was no One Direction reunion on the last Late Late Show With James Corden, knowing full well there never was going to be one and @JKCorden was just baiting us for views.”

Emma Ruben posted: “I can’t believe I watched James Corden in the hopes to catch a One Direction reunion.”

@kaycdg fumed: “No offense but checking Twitter after a long day at work just to find out out The Late Late Show didn’t give us a One Direction reunion for their final episode made me want to die like what even is the point anymore.”

@tomdaya28larry said: “I stayed up till three in the morning on a school night and have work tomorrow to watch five minutes of Harry and 568854340 different ads…

“With no One Direction reunion not even 2/5 of them were there. He played us for views…”

However, other viewers were quick to remind fans they should have managed their expectations as a reunion was never officially promised.

@alwayshrryx argued: “This show isn’t about a One Direction reunion, its about James. Its an emotional day for him. Please.”

Late Late Show executive producer Ben Winston has since admitted: “I don’t think [a reunion] was even logistically possible.”

He told Metro.co.uk: “I don’t know the ins and outs of their diary. We got a message out early because we saw that bubbling online and a lot of stuff can be said online and it’s taken as fact.

“The team saw that and we’ve got such a beautiful finale planned, the last thing we wanted was for everyone to be disappointed by our finale.”

Despite the social media storm, a reunion could eventually happen after all as Styles revealed he’s open to taking to the stage with the band again.

“I think I would never say never to that,” he said during a round of Spill Your Guts or Eat Your Guts.

“If there was a time when we wanted to do it, I don’t see why we wouldn’t.”

The Late Late Show is available on CBS in the USA.
