Kevin Clifton shares girlfriend Stacey Dooley’s disappointment to new show

Kevin Clifton is overwhelmed to discover a family revelation

Kevin Clifton said his girlfriend Stacey Dooley was left disappointed when he broke the news about his episode of Who Do You Think You Are?

The Strictly Come Dancing star will feature in an episode of the BBC series, which saw him travelling across the pond to Canada.

Speaking exclusively with Express.co.uk and other press, Kevin opened up about what he discovered while filming for the one-off programme.

He went on to admit his girlfriend Stacey had also been asked by show bosses to take part, but her episode never got made.

Kevin began: “I think I was in Manchester and my agent called me just as I was sitting down and said, ‘Remember that conversation with Who do you think you are? Well, they want to make a TV episode’.

“I was really excited, and I remember I just calling Stace, and she was like, ‘No way, how has this happened? Like, how did I not get one and you’ve gone and got one – you’re the most English person I know’.”

During Kevin’s episode, the professional dancer went to Canada where he learned about a distant family member called Matooski.

Matooski was a First Nations Canadian woman who endured horrific racism during her life.

Kevin even admitted to shedding a tear or two when making a “difficult” discovery about Matooski.

The Strictly star stated: “It’s funny because I’m as far removed from Matooski. I’m a 40-year-old white man who’s a ballroom dancer.

“Growing up as a ballroom dancer, I’m as far removed from her life as I can possibly be.

“I’ve never had to experience any kind of prejudice or racism or anything like that. It’s just not something I’ve ever had to deal with.

“And to imagine that there is someone in my history that had gone through this and I’m so far removed from it.”

He continued to explain that the discovery was a “big thing to process” and added: “I didn’t think it would get emotional on the show, but then at that moment, I did.”

During a preview clip from the show, which airs tonight, Kevin becomes overwhelmed when he is shown a photo of Matooski.

He said to the expert: “It’s just… I can’t believe it – this is genuinely one of the most overwhelming moments of my life I think.”

Kevin’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? is available to watch on Thursday, June 22 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
