Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter couldn’t resist making a dig at Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield after they faced backlash following the queue at Westminster Hall for the Queen’s Lying-in-State.

The This Morning presenters were accused of ‘jumping the queue’, which stretched miles long. However, they later explained they were there to report as part of the media, they didn’t file past the Queen or take anyone’s spot, and they would ‘never jump a queue’.

That hasn’t stopped plenty of people, including fellow presenters, making sly digs, with Janet being the latest to reference the controversy.

Presenting alongside Ruth Langsford, who previously hosted This Morning on Fridays with her husband Eamonn Holmes, Janet said: ‘You’re in the middle of your sleep, having a really lovely dream – you know, I’m at a party with loads of famous people, getting into the VIP area without any queuing…’

The comment was met with a groan from the studio audience and an awkward look from Coleen Nolan.

Some viewers were happy to see ‘queue-gate’ addressed on the ITV show, with one saying: ‘Finally #queuegate is mentioned on #LooseWomen.’

However, others were less than impressed, with one viewer tweeting: ‘That queue joke went down like a fart in a lift.’

‘@The_Real_JSP ‘s dig at Holly and Phil, about “queueing” was rude and unacceptable. Uncalled for,’ another said, with one more adding: ‘Well that dig at Holly and Phil by Janet was awkward.’

Holly and Phillip addressed the backlash on This Morning, clarifying that they were there in a professional capacity as members of the media, therefore were in a separate line to public mourners who had spent several hours waiting to see the Queen’s coffin.

And after it had been claimed the pair weren’t down on the media list, ITV has insisted they were given clearance to attend the lying in state, which was organised by producers.

A spokesperson for ITV told Metro.co.uk: ‘Phillip and Holly had full accreditation which was organised by the This Morning production team.

‘Any claims otherwise are untrue.’

However, they have still at the centre of furore, with a petition calling for them to be fired from This Morning reaching more than 70,000 signatures, and many, including the team behind Have I Got News For You, and former This Morning presenter Eamonn making digs.

But they have also been defended by various figures, including Piers Morgan and deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner, who said she was concerned by the ‘really damaging’ trolling aimed at Holly and Phillip.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
