Loose Women star Kaye Adams has been told by her co-star Carol McGiffin that she should "not be herself" while she is on this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

Kaye was announced as one of this year's stars to compete in the ballroom dancing competition.

On Friday's episode of Loose Women (September 2), Kaye said: "Carol and I met for breakfast this morning at 8 o'clock and she said to me 'one thing I am telling you is.'"

She then pointed to Carol who said: "Don't be yourself."

Carol then explained why she said it: "Everyone says, 'oh just be yourself' but I said to Kaye don't be yourself, you have to get this persona going because you have this persona of seriousness and this is probably why we were all so shocked because you are a serious person and a serious journalist."

Todays show kicked off with panellist Frankie Bridge saying she was disappointed that she wasn't at the announcement of Kay's Strictly reveal.

Frankie said: "I need to bring this up because I was absolutely fuming that I was not here for the big reveal that you're on Strictly this year.

"I saw it online and I was like no way you are literally the last person I would have expected to do it."

Carol chipped in: "you can tell from our reactions that is what we all thought."

Kaye will join Coronation Street stars Kym Marsh and Will Mellor and The One Show presenter Richie Anderson in the announced line-up of celebrity contestants.

At the time Kaye said she was "terrified."

Kaye said: "It's me. I can't dance at all. I've got two left feet.

"I can think of a million reasons not to do this but I thought, 'am I going to be sitting here at the end of September thinking , do you know what? Why didn't you just give that a go?'

"I'm 60 at the end of this year and I think, 'why not?'

"I can't make that much of a fool of myself."

Kaye broke the news of her involvement to her fellow panellists Sunetra Sarker, Carol McGiffin and Denise Welch.

They were later joined on video-link by Nadia Sawalha, who revealed she was 'so proud' of her colleague and friend.

Nadia said: "Oh my god, I feel emotional.

"Honestly, I could cry. It's amazing that you're going to do it because let's face it, you can't dance but that's what we like on Strictly.
