ITV's biggest reality dating show Love Island has attracted millions of viewers and die-hard fans when it first returned to screens in 2015.

But while the contestants appear to be having the time of their lives on the love matching programme, there are a number of rules and restrictions that they must adhere to.

And as the show continues to grow in popularity, things have also become tighter for the budding Love Island stars.

So as the series rolls around for its tenth year, Daily Star has taken a look at some of the clothing items and beauty items that have prohibited

Thong bikinis

Surprisingly, thong bikinis are strictly forbidden from the Love Island villa.

Love Island stars Jess and Eve Gale previously revealed ITV bosses banned them from wearing their most revealing bikinis while on the show.

The twin sisters appeared in the 2020 winter version of the series and were stopped in their tracks when they tried to exhibit their revealing swimwear.

Speaking to Daily Star, Eve said: "I had that thong bikini that I wasn't allowed to wear and you weren't allowed to wear that Ann Summers one.

"I had a bikini and it was the real thong one like the Oh Polly ones, it wasn't nude, but it was thong.

Jess then added: "I was wearing an Ann Summers one and because it's a family TV show they were like this is inappropriate."

Eve interjected and said: "Yeah, I had to change it to a tiny bit thicker."

Branded clothing

Love Island contestants are prohibited from wearing their own branded clothing on the show.

Since last year, islanders are provided with a continuous flow of clothes to wear as part of the show's partnerships with online store eBay.

Due to this, the islanders are not allowed to wear any of their own clothes if they contain identifiable brands, logos, or slogans.

Watches

Islanders are also not allowed to wear watches while in the South African villa.

One of the biggest changes that contestants are forced to adapt to while on the show is not knowing what time of the day it is.

With watches and clocks not allowed inside the villa, it has also been reported that clocks are also covered up on the oven and the hot tub.

In the past, previous contestants have admitted to using the sun to gauge the time of day and are told when to sleep and when to wake up by the producers.

Crocs

Those working as crew members behind the scenes of Love Island also have a strict set of rules to adhere to while on set.

Location manager Pancho Cavaller previously explained that staff are not allowed to wear a certain type of shoe while at work.

Sharing his insight during a Q&A on Reddit, Pancho said: "We are here to work. We need to wear the proper shoes and proper clothes.

"The Crocs, for example – they are not allowed here."

Tanning products

For some, fake tan is a fashion accessory that is usually worn to provide a stunning glow on the skin, however this product essential is also banned from the villa due to the stains it can leave on bed sheets.

Former contestant Chloe Burrows previously shared her shock when she was told so wasn't allowed to use the product.

She said: "I was in for a right shock when I went in that villa cause I’m fake tan and eyelash ’til I die, and went in there and [the producers] were like ‘yeah you’re not allowed fake tan because of the bedsheets.'”

Cause obviously imagine that on TV – you can see bright pink stains everywhere from where I’ve been laying."
