Love Island stars wont be told about Boris Johnsons resignation as PM – heres why

ITV's Love Island contestants will not be told about Prime Minister Boris Johnson's resignation in one of the most significant moments in British politics.

The government descended into chaos as more than 50 MP's resigned causing Mr Johnson to face pressure to resign from office. However, he announced On Thursday his plans to stay on as MP until the Conservative Party conference in October.

He added that the process to find his replacement should begin "immediately" and that a timetable for the plan will be announced next week. In his speech outside Number 10, Mr Johnson thanked his wife Carrie and their children.

However, while the entire UK processes the news – some of its residents won't have even heard whispers of the change. The Love Island contestants, who are currently holed up in a villa in Mallorca, Spain, will not be told of the historical news until they leave.

Producers have always ensured that Islanders have "no contact" with anyone behind the walls of the villa – and this news doesn't seem to have changed that.

A spokesperson for the show told the Metro : “They won’t be told – they have no contact with the outside world as always.”

In the past, the Love Islanders have managed to indulge in snippets of real-life when they were allowed to watch the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy last year.

Former Love Island star Adam Collard, who appeared on season four of the series, revealed that newbies would usually join the villa with news to share. Adam, alongside other season four cast members, received the news about the 2018 World Cup via word-of-mouth.

He told Heart: “The only information you get is when there is a new bombshell or a new islander coming into the house and then you start quizzing them.

“We’re not supposed to ask, but when Sam Bird came into the house we pestered the life out of him and then he told us the England score for the first game, and then the girls in Casa Amor told us the second score.”

The reality cast over in Mallorca faced their very own dramatic reshuffling last night in what was a tense recoupling post Casa Amor.

The dramatic scenes saw Andrew choose to couple up with Coco, but was left absolutely fuming when Tasha walked in with Billy Brown, 23. And they were not the only ones whose relationship was left in turmoil. Friday's Love Island teaser sees Jacques O'Neill in tears as he considers leaving the show after Paige Thorne discovered his romance with Cheyanne Kerr.
