Love Islands Liam Llewellyn admits real reason he quit was 24/7 surveillance

Love Island star Liam Llewellyn has spoken out for the first time since his shocking exit from the Spanish villa just six days into the eighth series of the show.

The Welsh student, 23, confessed that he underestimated how it would feel to be filmed 24/7 on the ITV2 dating series and opened up about the impact it had on his mental health.

During his time on the show he coupled up with Gemma Owen, 19, however the brunette beauty soon found an immediate attraction to Italian bombshell Davide Sanclimenti.

Although his time on the show appeared to be going smoothly, the TV hunk confessed in an exclusive interview with Daily Star that he struggled to adjust to life in the villa with the hundreds of cameras watching his every move.

He admitted: “Literally, I got in that villa [and felt uncomfortable] but you don’t really know how you’re gonna be until you get into that environment.

“I mean the amount of cameras [in there], I sort of never really forgot that I was being filmed 24/7.

“The cameras are visible; you can definitely see the cameras. Some are hidden but some are more obvious than others.

“But regardless if I personally could see them or not, I always knew that they’re gonna be there wherever you are, and even if they weren’t they may as well have been there in my head.”

Throughout his stay on the show, the son of the famous rugby player had regular chats with ITV bosses about how uncomfortable he felt and the impact it was having on his ability to date on the show.

Liam continued: “I never really forgot that and when that’s at the forefront of your mind all the time I don’t think you can ever really let yourself go and allow yourself to be your true 100 per cent full self.

“I struggled to do that knowing that everything I said was being filmed and could be on TV so I didn’t really allow myself to let myself go in the sense that I couldn’t be myself in there, I couldn’t do that in that environment.

“I just personally thought that if I couldn’t do this and offer myself to the people around me for the viewers or even just myself that it would be best to just remove myself from the situation.”

He went on to explain how ITV bosses pleaded with him for several days to stay on the show after he raised his concerns so early on in the show.

Liam added: “I’d seen a lot of producers throughout my time because obviously they knew about my decision.

I was lingering in there for a bit like so it wasn't just like ‘I'm going, see you in a bit’! I was in there discussing my feelings.

“I had multiple chats with psychologists, multiple chats with the executives, multiple chats with the producers and they were there for me every step of the way.”
