Love Island’s Olivia reveals secret crying in the villa that wasn’t shown on TV

Dumped Islander Olivia Hawkins has revealed that she cried "many times" in the Love Island villa – but said her tearful moments weren't shown on TV.

Her comments came as she addressed claims of "toxic femininity" on the show, after a domestic abuse charity spoke out.

Olivia, 27, who was dumped from the Island with boyfriend Maxwell Samuda, 23, has hit back at claims that the female Islanders on the show were "toxic" as she said that arguments are "inevitable" inside the villa.

In dramatic scenes that aired earlier this month, Olivia and Maxwell were dumped from the Island after they were deemed the "least compatible couple" by viewers at home.

But Olivia was at the centre of plenty of drama in the show, including when she fumed at Kai Fagan for choosing to recouple with Sanam Harrinanan, despite Olivia herself recoupling with Max Samuda after Casa Amor.

She also found herself in a war of words with Jessie Wynter, after she suggested that Jessie's intentions with Will Young and the show might not be genuine.

Olivia has now addressed the 'toxic femininity' claims, as she told The Sun: "It was never about the girls bashing the boys.

"I had many times when I was in tears that wasn’t shown on TV. There were real emotions."

“Maybe it was a case of big personalities clashing, it was so intense and arguments are inevitable when we were in a confined space together 24 hours a day.

“But it was definitely not a case of toxic femininity," she concluded.

Olivia went on to insist that she is "definitely not a villain" after drawing criticism from fans for some of her behaviour in the villa.

She said that when people "meet the real me" they will see that she is a "genuinely lovely person" with a "big heart".

The winter series of the show has brought plenty of drama but not all of it has gone down well with viewers.

Domestic abuse charity Mankind has slammed the female Islanders' behaviour as "gaslighting" and "manipulative", following the drama of Casa Amor, when Shaq Muhammad, Tom Clare and Will Young all ended up in tears.

Mankind told MailOnline: "Love Island has once again showed that when it comes to abusive behaviours against partners such as manipulation and gaslighting, it affects men as well as women as victims.

"The producers need to make sure they apply the same standards to the male contestants as they have been forced to in recent years for female contestants. We and our supporters are monitoring the show closely."

Viewers of the show appeared to agree, with one person tweeting: “The toxic femininity in that villa is wild."

Another said: “Olivia is the definition of toxic femininity — gaslighting almost everyone, hypocrisy, weaponising crocodile tears, fake nice and fake in general.”

Since Olivia left the villa, she has addressed critics who called her out for fuming at Kai Fagan when he recoupled after Casa Amor, even though she did the same.

Looking back, Olivia said: “It does look hypocritical of me, emotions were high.”
