Love Islands unexpected animal guest causes headaches for ITV2 shows producers

Love Island constantly welcomes new bombshells, but this year's series has seen an unexpected addition to the villa – a quick-footed cat that's been stealing their food.

The stray has reportedly been causing "headaches" during filming, casually strolling through the garden midway through tense scene including heated conversations and all-important recouplings.

the furry friend apparently distracted the islanders and left them bursting into giggles, diffusing the tension of the scene so they had to re-shoot it.

It seems that the cat is a local stray who has been living in the wild as he has badly damaged ears, according to reports.

The crew have nicknamed the cheeky feline ‘Lighting’, says the Daily Star, as it appears in a flash, especially when there are scraps of food around.

Their furry visitor has been popping into the villa since Casa Amor, when Gemma Owen took pity on the hungry animal and gave it some ham from the fridge.

The 19-year-old hoped to make friends with the cat, but the animal had other ideas, snatching the ham from her hand and running off.

She exclaimed: ‘‘Is it taking the p***? It’s taken the ham and p***ed off. I’ve literally been on my hands and knees for this!”

The cat continued to pop back to the main villa to cause chaos and a source told the Daily Star: ‘‘It’s certainly provided some laughs but also some real headaches."

While the cat seemingly isn't keen on Gemma, she's been doing much better in the romance stakes.

After pairing up with him early on, Gemma has enjoyed a successful and smooth-running relationship with Luca Bish, who even quipped he felt like “proposing” on their romantic beach date last night.

Having already admitted he might be in love with Gemma, he told her during their waterfront dinner: “I feel like I’m going to propose!’’

Gemma also gushed about Luca and admitted that he would get on well with her dad, Michael Owen.

“You’re obviously more than a fit guy that I fancy and have a flirt with,” she said.

She continued: ‘‘You’re someone I could actually see things working with. Someone I could actually see being a part of the family. You have got similar humour to my dad to be fair.’’

Luca then revealed he knew who her famous dad was, as he added: ‘‘If only I could kick a ball the same as him.’’

Gemma admitted that it’s her mum that he’ll need to win over though, telling her beau: ‘‘I hope to God my mum likes you because if she doesn’t then we’re screwed. If my mum doesn’t like you then it’s a no.’’

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
