With the Netflix series delving into the lives of both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex took the opportunity to revisit her upbringing. In episode two of the documentary series, Meghan and her mum Doria Ragland paid a visit to the Hollywood Schoolhouse where they met with Miss Debbie, Meghan’s former teacher.

And upon arrival, Miss Debbie had a rather ironic gift to show Meghan from when she was a child at the school.

The moment came when Doria was discussing what Meghan was like during her school years and first weighed in: “She was always so easy to get along with, very congenial, making friends.

“You know she was a very empathic child, very mature.

“I remember asking Meg did I feel like her mum and she told me that I felt like her controlling older sister. I never forgot that.”

Meghan and Doria then paid a visit to Hollywood Schoolhouse which the Duchess of Sussex attended as a child.

And once there, they were reunited with Meghan’s former principal: “Miss Debbie! I don’t believe it.”

“You know the mass,” Miss Debbie replied as referred to the crowds that had gathered. “Our Grand Duchess.”

“Oh my gosh, how are you?” Meghan asked to which her former teacher replied: “I’m very well! So happy to see you.”

Spotting Doria was in tow, Miss Debbie also planted a hug on Meghan’s mum and said: “Nice to see you.”

“My goodness, it’s amazing,” Doria replied. “What a great choice this was to start Meg here.”

Speaking to the camera away from the school, Meghan told Netflix viewers: “When we went back to Hollywood Schoolhouse, I was there from ages two to 12. It was so nice to be back.”

As footage from their school trip then continued, Miss Debbie pulled out an old book which Meghan had signed before she left for middle school.

“I want you to see what you wrote to me,” Miss Debbie told her. “Your penmanship was fantastic.”

“Oh my gosh, show me,” an excited Meghan remarked before Miss Debbie highlighted: “Go ahead and read that but I want you to pay attention to the PS.”

Reading aloud her message, Meghan said: “‘Dear, Miss Debbie, you have helped me so much.

“‘Since I was two years old I knew I could count on you to be there for me as a principal and also a friend.

“‘I can’t thank you enough. Even though I was this school for 10 years, I wish I could’ve stayed for 10 more.

“‘This school will always have a special place in my heart. Much love, Meghan.’”

The Duchess of Sussex then got to the aforementioned PS Miss Debbie referred to and read: “’PS, when I am rich and famous and I write my life story, I will talk about you and the school so you be known worldwide.’”

Meghan and Doria both let out a laugh as did Miss Debbie at the irony of Meghan’s quote.

Harry & Meghan part 1 is available to stream on Netflix now. Part 2 premieres on Thursday, December 15.
