The National Television Awards were expected to be broadcast on September 15 however ITV has decided to postpone the ceremony as the country entered into a 10-day period of mourning on Friday to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s death. The awards will now take place a month later on October 13.

ITV bosses were thrown into crisis talks ahead of the NTAs planned ceremony next week.

The awards were due to be held at the OVO Arena in Wembley and hosted by comedian Joel Dommett.

However, following a series of cancellations of other major national events, the NTAs have followed suit.

ITV and Indigo Television have decided to reschedule the ceremony which will still take place at the arena.

All tickets for the awards will remain valid for October 13.

The NTAs are not the only national events that have been postponed or cancelled in the wake of the Queen’s death.

The BBC has cancelled the Last Night of the Proms which was due to take place on Friday and Saturday.

The season of daily musical concerts which takes place mainly in London’s Royal Albert Hall was scheduled to conclude this weekend.

Elsewhere, the Premier League has decided not to go ahead with its 10 games planned this weekend.

The decision was made to honour the Queen’s “extraordinary life and contribution to the nation”.

Meanwhile, the NTAs shortlist was announced last month.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are yet again in the running for the TV Presenter award.
