There’s at least one more season of Outlander still to come as Sam Heughan and his co-star Caitriona Balfe are currently hard at work on the set of the seventh instalment in Scotland. In the meantime, fans of Starz’s globally successful Diana Gabaldon adaptation have been wondering if the series will continue until all 10 books have been brought to screen.
Sam has confirmed he still plans on portraying Jamie for some time despite landing more roles away from Outlander.
In recent years, he has been heavily tipped as a frontrunner to take over Daniel Craig as the iconic secret agent, James Bond.
He has also appeared in this year’s Channel 4 drama Suspect, teamed up with his Outlander co-star Graham McTavish for Men In Kilts and has a number of film projects about to be released.
“Who wouldn’t want to play James Bond?” he recently admitted.
“But I feel I’ve kind of done that in SAS: Red Notice which was very much a British Special Forces film.
And actually [it was] a lot more interesting because it was based on a real character Andy McNab, who I got to work with.”
While Sam is no stranger to blockbuster action, he may want to expand his career into different genres as he starts to eye up further projects on the big and small screens.
However, in an exciting new update, the Scottish star has revealed he hasn’t made any plans to wrap up his role as Jamie just yet.
“But I’m on Outlander for a while yet,” he confirmed in a recent interview with The Scotsman.
As work continues on season seven, some fans are concerned the series could be about to come to an end before all 10 of Diana’s planned series of novels have been adapted.
The Starz drama’s seventh outing will comprise of a massive 16 episodes to make up for this year’s truncated eight-part season.
An extended season seven could very well mean the Frasers’ story is about to wrap up but, thankfully, it appears this isn’t the case just yet.

Teasing his next projects, Sam added: “And I have my movie coming out with Celine Dion and Priyanka Chopra soon.”
In the upcoming rom-com, It’s All Coming Back to Me, Sam will team up with the pop legend for a classic romantic romp.
Then, Sam is circling a much darker role in the film Days Gone, based on the hit zombie video game franchise.
“So that will be exciting, and then we’ll see,” he continued, alluding to his future plans.
“Some theatre would be great and I’ve got something else but I can’t say. There are definitely plans afoot…”
Sam’s acting career back in the early 2000s on the stage, during which time he landed small roles in television and film.
He could easily be tempted back to the theatre during his time away from Fraser’s Ridge, but it also won’t be long before Sam and Caitriona are back on Starz where they belong.
Outlander seasons 1-6 are available on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
