Starz previously announced the world of Outlander would be expanding with more spin-offs using work created by author Diana Gabaldon and many fans are curious to know if there will be a spin-off series focusing on Lord John Grey (played by David Berry). Gabaldon has written six novellas and three novels focusing on the character, which sees the soldier solving crimes. So, there’s plenty of material there to be adapted.

The younger version of the character was played by British actor Oscar Kennedy, who appeared back in the season two episode Je Suis Prest when a teenage Lord John stumbled across Jamie Fraser and his men.

However, he ended up getting manipulated into sharing military information which would benefit the Jacobite cause.

Lord John would be reunited with Jamie years later with the pair meeting again at Ardsmuir Prison, where they struck up an unlikely friendship.

The Redcoat fell in love with Jamie but sadly his feelings weren’t returned, nonetheless, Lord John has always aided the Highlander over the years.

Actor Kennedy reflected on the prospect of returning to Outlander for a Lord John prequel series.

He said: “Yeah, I mean I would love to be involved. My experience on Outlander was short-lived.

“I literally did one or two days, I think and it was actually quite daunting to come onto a show as big as that. I think I was 16 at the time I went and did it.”

Kennedy went on to say: “I had so much fun, everyone was so lovely and welcoming and they clearly have a really great team of people working with them on that show and I’m sure they would have the same people doing the prequel, so I would be well open to the idea.”

The star added he was also open to a return more generally to Outlander in perhaps a flashback scene.

Oscar also said he’d known about the character’s true identity when he went for the audition for William Grey.

He said: “Yeah, so I remember getting sent through the sides for the audition and that was part of the paragraph of stuff they mentioned. I kinda thought, ‘Oh he’ll be a bit of a player later on.’”

However, little did he know how much of a big character Lord John would go on to be in Outlander.

Gabaldon recently shared an update about the status of the Lord John prequel series at New York Comic-Con, telling fans: “At the moment, there doesn’t seem to be any interest on the part of the people who actually produce the show and I don’t mean [producer] Maril [Davis] and [showrunner] Matthew [B. Roberts], I mean like Sony.

“Yeah, they don’t seem to be all that interested at the moment but things change and they change fast.”

Gabaldon’s words suggest there could be scope for a Lord John series in the future but it would be up to fan appetite to convince those higher up a fully-fledged show would be a hit.

Blood of My Blood has already been confirmed with the prequel focusing on Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) parents Brian (Andrew Whipp) and mother Ellen MacKenzie and their forbidden romance.

Indeed, season seven of Outlander will see a whole host of familiar faces coming back to the show including Lotte Verbeek as Geillis Duncan, Whipp as Brian, Steven Cree as Ian Murray, Nell Hudson as Laoghaire Mackenzie and Graham McTavish as Dougal MacKenzie, among others, suggesting they could be helping to set up Blood of My Blood.

The forthcoming show is in the development stages with Davis and Roberts attached to the project which will use material from a novel Gabaldon is reportedly working on.

Blood of My Blood is likely to see Colum MacKenzie (Gary Lewis) and Dougal back but younger versions off the character.

Previously speaking about whether he’d be appearing in Blood of My Blood, McTavish told Express.co.uk: “It depends how much of a prequel it is.

“There are limits to my youthful transformation, so I think any chance of me playing a teenage Dougal is not on the cards but you never know.”
