The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has had a tough few years. Just before the star of the film series, Johnny Depp, was dropped from by Disney after “abuse” allegations from his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Zoe Saldana spoke out about her time in the first movie. She claimed she had a “bad experience” on The Curse of the Black Pearl. But she has now revealed the franchise boss has made amends.

In 2014 Saldana explained that the people she worked with on the first Pirates movie “weren’t the right people for her”.

She went on to say: “I’m not talking about the cast. The cast was great. I’m talking about the political stuff that went on behind closed doors. It was a lot of above-the-line versus below-the-line, extras versus actors, producers versus PAs.”

The actor, who has now become a worldwide phenomenon in the Marvel universe as Gamora, and as Neytiri in the Avatar series, said she “almost quit the business” because of her experience.

Now, Saldana has revealed the series boss, Jerry Bruckheimer, tracked her down and apologised for what she went through.

Saldana said in a new interview: “It was my first exposure to a major Hollywood mega movie, where there were just so many actors and so many producers and so many crew members. We were shooting in different locations, and the environments were not that agreeable, sometimes, to our shoot days.”

She added: “I was very young, and it was just a little too big for me, and the pace of it was a little too fast … And I just didn’t feel like that was okay.”

The 44-year-old then added: “Years later, I was able to meet with Jerry Bruckheimer, who apologised that I had that experience cause he really wants everyone to have a good experience on his projects.”

She noted how much this gesture form the Disney boss meant to her.

This positivity about the movie is certainly a far cry from the feelings she described years prior.

Saldana said at the time she felt the people behind the scenes of The Curse of the Black Pearl were “very elitist”.

She went on: “I was 23 years old, and I was like, ‘f**k this!’ I am never putting myself in this situation again. People disrespecting me because they look at my number on a call sheet and they think I’m not important. F**k you.”

Although Saldana is now in a good place with the Pirates of the Caribbean bosses, nothing has been said about her future in the series just yet.

She only acted in the first film of the series, before bowing out to work on other projects in the years that followed.

However, now could be the perfect opportunity for her to jump back into the idyllic Caribbean waters.

Last year it was confirmed that the Pirates of the Caribbean series is being rebooted without Depp as the star.

Harley Quinn actor Margot Robbie later confirmed that she will act as the protagonist for the series.

She explained that Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson is penning the movie, and it would include a lot of “girl power”.

Meanwhile, fans of the film franchise are still calling for Depp to be reinstated as Jack Sparrow. The “We want JOHNNY DEPP back as CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW” currently has over 878,000 signatures on Change.org.

The Pirates of the Caribbean films are available to stream on Disney Plus now.
