Queen Charlotte isn’t expected to have a second season on Netflix

Netflix Official Trailer: Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Bridgerton has become a global phenomenon since it made its Netflix debut in December 2020, with each series focusing on a Bridgerton sibling’s love life.

Season one introduced subscribers to the wealthy family, paying particular attention to Lady Phoebe Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Bassett (Regé-Jean Page).

The second instalment revolved around the eldest of Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) children, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) who fell head over heels for Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).

The next series is going to be all about Lady Whistledown herself, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and her unrequited love for Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

But before the third season comes out, Netflix released a highly anticipated prequel in the shape of Queen Charlotte.

Will there be a season 2 of Queen Charlotte?

Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte came out in full on Thursday, May 4, on Netflix.

Eager fans may have even finished all six episodes since its release and are keen to know if there will be more on the way.

Unfortunately, it is believed that Netflix isn’t going to bring out a second season of Queen Charlotte.

While the streamer hasn’t officially cancelled the romantic drama, there has been a major clue from the very beginning that there wouldn’t be new episodes to look forward to.

Since Queen Charlotte was first announced in May 2021, the Bridgerton prequel has been promoted as a limited series.

This means that its creator Shonda Rhimes, her team of writers and Netflix set out to make one stand-alone season out of the story.

Of course, there have been cases where limited series have gone on to have follow-up seasons such as the internationally popular The White Lotus on Sky Atlantic.

But as it stands, there has been no talk to make subscribers think Queen Charlotte will be back for more.

Talking about the show, Netflix head of global TV Bela Bajaria told Deadline: “Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton.

“Shonda [Rhimes] and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love.

“And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.”

Queen Charlotte is available to watch on Netflix.
