The third instalment of The Rings of Power saw Halbrand (played by Charlie Vickers) and Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) arrive in Númenor after they were rescued at sea. Galadriel was desperate to leave and head to the Southlands where she heard the orcs had ripped through villages. However, Halbrand was happy to stay put for a few days. Now, fans think there’s a reason Halbrand is keen to keep the Elf from the Southlands.

Who is Halbrand in The Rings of Power?

In episode three, Adar, it was revealed Hilbrand’s ancestors fought alongside Morgoth in the Southlands.

He is later uncovered by Galadriel as the lost king of the Southlands.

His lands are desperate to be united with him assuming his role as King, but Halbrand is reluctant to do so.

Halbrand claims his ancestors allegiance with Morgoth fills him with shame.

But Galadriel argues they could work together to reunite the lands in Middle Earth.

Is Halbrand hiding in plain sight as Sauron?

While Halbrand has now been revealed as a King of the Southlands, viewers aren’t so convinced.

Many viewers believe a huge clue in episode two confirms Halbrand is actually the villain Galadriel is hunting, Sauron.

When Galadriel is found by Halbrand and his companions on a raft, one of the survivors says the Elf does not look dangerous.

Halbrand responds: “Looks can be deceiving,” prompting concern he is referring to himself.

@Robinjgane theorised on Twitter: “RING OF POWER EP 2 SPOILERS!!! Halbrand=Sauron theory: here is some evidence which I haven’t seen talked about.

“From this video it looks as if he has magic, shown in the way Galadriel sort of passes out when he moves his hand across her face???? #RingsOfPower #LordOfTheRings.”

@AnCaldazar posted: “#RingsOfPowerSpoilers Halbrand is way too shrewd and smart to be just a normal human. I think the Sauron theory still has a seed of becoming true.”

“I kinda love the theory that Halbrand is Sauron. Doesn’t hardly make sense but boy would I love finding out that a bunch of people were crushing on the dark lord,” @schmittTheory added.

@Veta838 shared: “I really like the “Halbrand is Sauron” theory, I think it would be so much cooler than what is far more likely (he is a king of men hiding from his destiny). #RingsOfPower.”
