Saturday Night Takeaway stars issue update after cast member falls live on air

Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway stars have issued an announcement after a cast member slipped on stage live on air.

Stephen Mulhern was back on our screens on Saturday (March 11) alongside Geordie duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly

As the trio promoted the show heading to Disney World in Florida for the final show of the series, a host of characters walked out on stage as part of the "Happiest Minute Of The Week" segment.

However, things didn't quite go to plan as the person dressed up as Shrek slipped live on air after missing the step on stage.

Rushing to Twitter, one fan penned: "Shrek missing the step and falling over has creased me."

Another added: "Fair play to Shrek he styled it off.'

A third person posted: "Did poor Shrek fall over?"

While a fourth social media user: "Funniest thing seeing Shrek fall off the stage on Saturday Night Takeaway."

Stephen, Ant and Dec reassured viewers watching at home that Shrek was fine after an advert break.

Earlier in the episode, viewers were left "in tears" after they watched a sweet adoption request.

Ant and Dec sat and spoke to a shocked audience member who took the opportunity live on the show to ask her stepdad if he could officially adopt her.

The gentleman burst into tears as his stepdaughter proposed the adoption idea to him with the help of drones that had been lit up in the sky outside the studio.

After he accepted, the pair held each other in a sweet embrace.

Over on Twitter, viewers expressed how emotional the segment made them, with one tweeting: "That was absolutely amazing what they did on @itvtakeaway as a foster child that made me tear up what an amazing moment for that family."

A second put: "Wow I’m a grown ass man sat here crying my eyes out what a question to ask a special person! #SNT 'Will you adopt me?' Such a special moment and so wholesome. Top Man."

A third wrote: "Just cried my eyes out at #SaturdayNightTakeaway at the adoption proposal. Makes me miss my dad so much but at the same time I’ve never been short of father figures so despite this huge loss I’m still so lucky."
