Shane Richie’s net worth explored as he confirms EastEnders return as Alfie Moon

Shane Richie is best known for playing Alfie Moon on EastEnders, but the actor has had an incredible and varied career to date.

The star has played the Albert Square legend on-and-off from 2002 and is set to return to the BBC soap this year – no doubt racking up a substantial wealth.

The 58-year-old star previously revealed he signed up for I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! because he’s “literally stint” after having all his work cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

So what does his financial situation look like now? Here we take a look at the actor’s net worth and how he has made his fortune.

Shane Richie’s net worth

According to website Net Worth Post, Shane Richie’s net worth is an estimated £150,000.

At the height of his career, he was reportedly earning £230,000 a year doing EastEnders.

Surprisingly, considering his massive success, the actor has said he has been struggling for cash.

He told The Mirror: “I was going on tour, doing a TV series and panto but it all got cancelled in March. Now I am literally skint!

“You save for a rainy day but you don’t expect the rainy day to last eight months. Thankfully, I’ve been able to borrow money from mates, my family and the bank.”

Shane also explained: “I got rid of my car but only because I lease a car for my wife for the school run. I can get around on a moped.

“I am alright, I have had a career and if it all finishes tomorrow, so be it. If the worst comes to the worst, I’ll do stand-up or resurrect a musical.”

Shane has also presented several gameshows, including Reflex and Win Your Wish List.

Discussing his finances in his autobiography, Rags to Richie, he explained: “Despite all the money coming in, I didn’t put a single penny to one side."

He added: “I had no savings account and no pension. My philosophy was ‘Treat every day as if it was your last because one day you’ll be right!’”.

Before the coronavirus pandemic caused it to be postponed, the actor starred in the musical Everyone’s Talking About Jamie as a retired drag queen.

According to The Sun, Shane had expected to earn a whopping £100,000 for his work on stage, which has now been postponed until 2021.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC
