Emmerdale viewers were left “heartbroken” following Friday’s emotional scenes in which the funerals of Faith (played by Sally Dexter) and Liv (Isobel Steele) took place. The ITV soap favourites were both remembered by the villagers, and Emmerdale legend Faith even returned for a poignant goodbye which left fans in tears as they commented on how “touching” the gesture was.
Viewers will have been geared up for an emotional ride as they tuned into Friday’s episode, and the scenes didn’t fail to tug at the heartstrings.
A devastated Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) led the farewells to his late wife, Liv, while Faith’s best friend Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) read a message on her behalf.
Faith, who had time to prepare for her death, had written a letter she’d asked Eric to read at her funeral.
Eric began to read aloud: “Dear family, friends, well-wishers, doom-mongers and those who’ve come just for the buffet.
“I’ve been running away from things my whole life, but cancer finally caught up with me.
“I imagine everyone would like to say that when the final curtain falls, they have no regrets.
“But for me, that would be a lie because I’ve got loads.”
At that point, Faith began to read the rest of the letter as the scene showed her writing her final farewell.
She paid a touching tribute to her children, Cain and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).
When the letter had been read, Faith looked up and smiled at the camera before her image faded.
Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) then stood up to talk about his sister Liv but was unable to finish his eulogy.
Stepping in, Vinny ended up sharing his thoughts instead.
Fans quickly shared their sadness over the emotional tributes, with Twitter user @lindibea commenting: “How lovely to see Faith again #Emmerdale.”
