Strictly Come Dancing set for surprise winner as expert disagrees with fans

Strictly Come Dancing quickstepped its way onto our TV screens on Saturday night (September 27) – and a dance expert has since revealed the celebrity that they think has the "best overall chance of winning".

Stars including Matt Goss, Ellie Simmonds, Will Mellor, Fleur East and Hamza Yassin took to the dance floor with their professional partners, as the latest series of the BBC competition got underway at the weekend.

However, one celebrity in particular could be in the front running to lift the glitterball trophy – Kaye Adams.

Speaking to Heart Bingo, dancing expert Dr Jill Rose Jacobs revealed the Loose Women presenter is her favourite to win and revealed her reasons why, saying: "It was a very fun launch show. The Friday launch show spotlighted each celebrity’s athleticism (or lack thereof), musicality, expressivity, and likability.

"My immediate feeling it that Kaye Adams has the best overall chance of winning."

Speaking of the night's performances, she also said: "Kaye Adams' performance brought me to tears."

However, Dr Jill, who was previously a professor of dance at New York University, aired her comments with a note of caution, adding that Kaye winning "will depend on her gaining confidence in her elegant stature".

She added: "Kaye will also need to continue training to improve her dance technique and build strength."

However, the presenter's chances of lifting the glitterball trophy could be closely contested by Coronation Street actor Will Mellor.

Speaking about the actor, Dr Jill said: "Craig Revel Horwood usually plays the 'mean judge' on strictly. But he was uncharacteristically positive throughout the evening. I agreed with a lot of his comments and scoring.

"When Craig commented on Will Mellor’s dance, saying 'I love it', I couldn’t agree more.

"Will Mellor and Nancy Xu’s Jive performance was the strongest performance of the evening."

But could another celeb beat both stars to claim victory in the final?

Dr Jill added: "The evening did come with other standout performances, such as Helen Skelton’s Smooth American Foxtrot with Gorka Marquez.

"Though the words, ‘old Hollywood’ were used by the judges commenting on other dancers, Helen’s performance was old-school glamour while her partner’s was reminiscent of Gene Kelly.

"Hamza Yassin’s performance of the Foxtrot with partner Jowita Przystal was a welcomed surprise. Not only is Hamza a ‘good mover’, he demonstrated technical excellence in fully-extending lines, musically, confidence as performer and partner.

She continued: "Overall I am very excited about this season."
