15 new celebrities will be taking to the ballroom floor for the first time in a matter of weeks and former Strictly Come Dancing star Dan Walker has shared some tips. The former BBC Breakfast host reflected on his time on the show and warned contestants not to listen to judge Craig Revel Horwood.
Lorraine host Christine Lampard remarked: “So talk to me about Strictly, here we are, a year on. It’s all kicks off again.
“It’s a weird feeling looking back on it reflectively. Every time you hear the music it will send chills.
“It was an incredible experience and something I guess out of any kind of comfort zone but you did love it.”
“I did love it,” Dan replied. “I spent time getting to know Nadiya Bychkova, two time world champion, I always have to refer to her like that.
“She was fantastic. I’m quite a confident person but I’ve never been confident on the dance floor.
“She showed me I could enjoy it and other people could enjoy it and I just loved learning from her. She was brilliant.”
Dan continued: “There’s a whole new bunch of people going into it this year and I think the one thing we had throughout it, we said at the start of it, ‘We’re just going to enjoy it as much as we can.’”
“The worst thing is when you come out of Strictly and say, ‘I wish I’d enjoyed it more,’ because you’re part of the biggest show on TV,” he added.
Dan shared his top two pieces of advice are: “Trust your partner, ignore Craig!”
The presenter made it to the semi-final of the 2021 series before he was voted out.
It’s recently been confirmed the BBC will be making a shake-up to the themed weeks.
Strictly Come Dancing will honour the broadcaster’s centenary with a whole week dedicated to the BBC.
The fun-filled new themed episode will see each of the couples take to the Strictly ballroom floor, either dancing to a theme tune from an iconic BBC programme or in tribute to one of the BBC’s most loved services.
There will also be two dazzling professional routines, one dedicated to the BBC’s natural history programming and another that will see our professional dancers “crashing” some of the BBC’s flagship shows.
Sarah James, Executive Producer for Strictly Come Dancing said: “We know how much viewers love the Strictly themed weeks so it’s fantastic to be able to announce a new one, celebrating the BBC’s centenary.
“It’s the icing on the cake to be able to confirm that we are returning to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom this year, we can’t wait to get back to Blackpool!”
Other changes to this year’s series include the departure of Oti Mabuse and Aljaz Skorjanec.
Four new professional dancers have joined Strictly including European cup winner Vito Coppola, Chinese National Champion Carlos Gu, former Under 21 British National Champion Lauren Oakley and Latin dance champion Michelle Tsiakkas.
They join Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Cameron Lombard, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Giovanni Pernice, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington and Nancy Xu.
Strictly Come Dancing returns September 17 on BBC One.
