Strictly Come Dancing star Aljaž Škorjanec has been left disappointed after he was forced to cancel his show in Belfast due to an "illness".

The professional dancer took to Instagram to inform his followers that the show will no longer be going ahead and said that he was "devastated" to have to cancel.

He wrote: "To our Belfast fans, as I am sure you have seen by now, we are devastated that we have to cancel tonight's show in Belfast. We were so excited to come to perform for you but unfortunately I am truly unwell and doctors have advised me not to travel or perform."

Aljaž continued: "We are working on a new date for Belfast so please retain your ticket for the new date or request a refund from your point of purchase. We are so sorry but hope to see you very soon!"

Fans flocked to the comments to share their support for the Strictly star and left comments of praise for him.

One wrote: "Hope you feel better soon Aljaž," with a pink heart emoji.

Others simply wished the dancer would "get well soon," that he has "a speedy recovery" and that they are "sending love".

Fans were sad to hear that the Strictly professional had decided to leave the show just months ago as he was a fan favourite with BBC viewers.

Their spirits were also crushed further after ITV hunk Ben Shephard recently admitted that he wouldn't take part in a future series of Strictly.

He spoke to The Mirror about the prospect and revealed that he thinks he would be "rubbish," although the experience would be "incredible but intense".

Shephard said: "Everyone’s got this idea that because I’ve got a dance degree I’d be good on Strictly but I’d be rubbish. I did contemporary dance – standing at a bar and rolling around on the floor. It’s not charging across the dance floor doing a quickstep."

He noted that "lots of his colleagues," such as Kate Garraway, Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, have taken part and "absolutely love it".

Ben has worked with current contestant Helen Skelton and branded her "absolute dynamite" and an "incredible broadcaster".
