The Good Doctor loses fan favourite ahead of season 7

The Good Doctor: Season six finale teased in promo

Brandon Larracuente has been confirmed to leave his role as Dr Daniel Perez in the next episode of The Good Doctor.

After joining at the start of the ABC drama’s sixth season Perez has been involved in a gripping storyline about his drug addiction and rehabilitation.

However, his story is about to take a dark turn as it’s been revealed he’ll be hit by a car in Monday’s season finale, Love’s Labor.

The official synopsis reads: “Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and Lea Dilallo (Paige Spara) are heading to the delivery room and everyone from the hospital is also there – except for one very important person.

“Meanwhile, a tragic accident involving Drs Perez and Jared Kalu (Chuku Modu) pulls everyone away, including Dr Murphy.”

According to Deadline, The Good Doctor’s producers felt Perez’s story had come to a natural conclusion.

Thankfully, though, it appears Perez will survive the accident as they are leaving the door open to guest appearances in season seven.

Larracuente has recently landed the lead role in Prime Video’s upcoming series On Call so has had to reduce his commitments to the ABC drama.

Season seven of The Good Doctor will be premiering later this year, so Larracuente may have already freed up time to pop in to St Bonaventure Hospital by that point.

Elsewhere, it’s also heavily speculated that Dr Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff) will also be bowing out in the season finale.

In last week’s episode he was forced to step back from surgery after a mini stroke left him with severe memory problems.

Glassman’s friendship with Shaun is also on the rocks as he was the one who encouraged him to put down the knife.

Although Schiff’s permanent departure has yet to be announced, it’s speculated he’ll at least be taking a step back from his role after Glassman’s diagnosis.

Much like Larracuente, it’s also expected he’ll at least return in a guest capacity at some point in season seven.

Despite some popular characters leaving, there’ll be no shortage of The Good Doctor as season seven will continue Shaun and Lea’s story after the summer.

Plus, a spin-off titled The Good Lawyer has also been greenlit at ABC.

The offshoot will star Kennedy McMann as Joni DeGroot, a young lawyer with OCD.

The Good Doctor season 6 concludes Monday, May 1 on ABC in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
