The Great British Bake Off judges issue bleak warning to fans ahead of new Channel 4 series | The Sun

THE Great British Bake Off judges have issued a warning to fans ahead of the new series starting on Channel 4.

Fans were left unsure if the programme would return as planned on Tuesday following Her Majesty The Queen's death on Thursday.

However, bosses at the station have given the green light for the new series to begin as planned in its usual 8pm timeslot.

Ahead of viewers seeing judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith return to the big tent with presenters Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding, they've warned fans they might not agree with their views.

Speaking to the Mirror, Paul, 56, said in some weeks they had to go out of their way to find faults with the contestant's creations.

"There was a couple of weeks where we had to sort of sit down properly and break things down to little faults that they may have had, which, in the end, sent them home," he revealed.

He continued: "It’s hard. It’s getting really difficult.

“I don’t want them to make a mistake, it just makes our life easier if they do.”

The warning comes as Prue added how much fans get invested in the original BBC One show – and even recounted one time she was stopped in the supermarket.

“I had a woman in a supermarket say to me, ‘I didn’t agree with you about that lemon drizzle cake'," she recalled.

"And I said: ‘Why?’ and she said ‘You said it was far too lemony and it was delicious…’Well, what do I say to that?"

Paul added that "every year's the same" and has a reply to viewers who disagree with them.

“I’m saying: ‘But you never tasted it! Or smelt it. Or felt it. You saw a picture and you made your decision on that one sense," he said.

Ahead of series 13 of GBBO kicking off, this year's brand new 12 contestants have been revealed in full.

The Great British Bake Off begins Tuesday, 13 September from 8pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
