Unforgotten fans rage over the same thing in penultimate episode despite shock twist | The Sun

Unforgotten viewers were left confused and missing out on key information as they all complained about the same technical issue.

On last night’s instalment of the popular ITV1 drama viewers were all set for fresh developments in the investigation into who killed Precious Falade.

Tensions were high as the penultimate episode in the series aired. While more threads began to unravel DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) and his new colleague DCI Jess James (Sinead Keenan) seemed to develop a new, and more cohesive working relationship.

This was apparent in one scene where Sunny lead an interview with Jess by his side, however, as they started to question the motive of the accused there appeared to be a sound failure.

Half way into the episode it was difficult to make out Sunny’s questions, it wasn’t clear whether it  was down to actor Sanjeev’s articulation or a sound engineer.

It didn’t escape the notice of fans, who complained on Twitter. One said: “Is it me or is some of the dialogue in this so whispery and hard to hear?”

There was a chorus of agreement, another added: “I’m exactly the same. Missed half of what was said in that interview, far too much mumbling.” One fan wrote: “Am I going deaf. I can’t hear half of what they’re saying!”

Crucial elements appeared to be missed due to the sound issue, and it continued throughout the episode, with some viewers blaming the actors.

The complaints continued, one said: “I’m so pleased it’s not just me. There are several people in #unforgotten who don’t seem to be able to articulate too well.”

Another agreed, Tweeting ITV: “Tonight's episode is the second in which you have failed to provide subtitles. Do you have any idea how hard it is to follow a plot when it's acted by actors whose faces don’t move, either frozen, lifted or Botoxed, even without a hearing loss? Really hacked off.”

Some even took aim at Sinead’s natural Irish accent. One fan said: “I love the Irish accent but I find Jess very difficult to understand. She whispers and mumbles with her head down.”

Another said: “Agree but the rest are the same. Don’t think it’s anything to do with Irishness (sic). I nearly always have to put subtitles on these days for dramas but not for vintage ones. They don’t bother with diction any more.”

Despite the sound issues, fans were treated to a shock twist. Spoiler alert!

Last night, viewers discovered that J, isn’t actually J. His initial stands for Jay and not Joe. Therefore he isn’t Joseph Bell, instead he’s his half brother called, Jay Royce.

This was much to the surprise of Jess and Sunny. When Jay’s laptop was uncovered it linked him with Karol and Precious and gives new motives to be explored in the season finale next week.

Unforgotten airs on Mondays on ITV at 9pm
