Vera star shares filming update on ITV series as fan favourite makes return

Vera star Riley Jones has sent fans into a meltdown after sharing an update on the ITV series.

The actor, who plays Mark Edwards, took to his Instagram account to inform his followers how filming was going.

The snap showed Riley pictured with leading lady Brenda Blethyn, David Leon, Jon Morrison and newcomer Rhiannon Clements, who has replaced Ibinabo Jac.

The actors were all smiles on set as they posed in the police office on set.

He captioned the post: “One down, two to go! #vera #itv #itvstudios #crime #crimedrama #drama #actor.”

Riley’s photo sent fans into a meltdown with many expressing their excitement about David’s return as Joe Ashworth.

However, while many were thrilled to see Joe back, others noticed Aiden’s absence.

Joe left the series in 2014 and was replaced by Aiden Healy (played by Kenny Doughty).

However, earlier this year, Kenny announced he was stepping away from his role after eight years.

It was later revealed David would be returning to the ITV series as Vera’s sidekick.

Taking to the comment section, Alison Lyons replied: “So nice to see @davidjleon_____ back with the gang! it’s giving major S2 throwbacks for me.”

hedleygail302 said: “Omg does Joe come back .. great Shot; this has to be my most favourite crime series ever , I’ll miss it when it wraps up; Brenda Blethyn is absolutely brilliant as the geordie Detective; she does the accent superbly, and her quips are fantastic , you all create magic on screen can’t wait to see this. ” (sic)
