Wendy Williams Reportedly Plans to Boycott Sherri Shepherds Talk Show
According to a new report, the former TV host is boycotting the actress’ upcoming talk show ‘Sherri’ which is set to take over the slot for ‘The Wendy Williams Show’.
AceShowbiz –Wendy Williams apparently is still upset that her long-running talk show “The Wendy Williams Show” was abruptly canceled. According to a new report, the former TV host is boycotting Sherri Shepherd‘s “Sherri” which is set to take over the slot for “The Wendy Williams Show”.
A source told Okay! that Wendy has been calling her friends to tell them not to guest star on the new talk show. Additionally, it was said that the 44-year-old discussed a boycott with her “Real Housewives” friends.
“Wendy has been calling her friends and saying don’t go on the Sherri show and don’t promote it,” the source claimed. “The thing is Wendy thinks she has this loyalty, but at the end of the day- no one is going to turn Sherri down.”
Wendy’s show aired its finale on June 17 after 13 years on air. The TV personality, who was absent during the final season due to ongoing health issues, was snubbed in the final episode as Sherri filled in the hosting duty as a guest host. Meanwhile, the actress’ “Sherri” is scheduled to premiere in September.
Of the new show, Wendy previously shared, “I like her but, I won’t be watching her. I know what she’s going to be doing and that’s really not my thing….You know what I’m saying? Anyway.”
The new report arrived after it was said that Wendy repeatedly forgot that her show was canceled. Production distributor Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus detailed the matter during The Hollywood Reporter interview released on Wednesday, August 17.
The execs shared they had to tell her multiple times that the show was ending despite having publicly announced its conclusion in February as a result of her prolonged absence. “I said, ‘We haven’t heard from you, and we had to make a decision.’ We should have made one in November, but we pushed it to January or February, and by then, it was like, ‘Make a decision or lose the time period,’ ” Ira recalled, adding that Wendy appeared to be confused about the show’s cancellation.
“[Wendy] said, ‘Well, what’s going to air at 10 o’clock?’ I told her, ‘Sherri’s going to air at 10 o’clock.’ [Wendy] then replied, ‘So, can I go on at 11?’ I said, ‘We’d love to work with you, and there are lots of ways and lots of buyers, but you need to come back, and we need to know that you’re okay,’ ” Ira continued. “You can’t just call after nine months and say, ‘I’m ready.’ “
Additionally, a source told the site that there was a planned Zoom meeting for 50 program staffers in September 2021. The meeting, however, had to be cut short after about three minutes as Wendy was “starting not to be coherent” during the talk. Staffers allegedly would “find bottles [of alcohol] up in the ceiling tiles and other weird places in the office.”
Wendy’s spokesperson responded to the interview in a statement. “It has been no secret that Wendy has battled with addiction over the years but at this time Wendy is on the road to recovery and healing herself from her chronic illnesses and her grievances of the past,” Shawn Zanotti said in the statement. “What we do know is that Wendy has a history of chronic illness that she has publicly spoken about.”
