At least one killed and one injured as gunman opens fire in Mercedes factory in Germany | The Sun

A GUNMAN stormed a Mercedes factory killing one and wounding another in a rampage.

Cops swooped on the car plant after shots were fired at employees in Sindelfingen, Germany.

The gunman is reported to have entered the facility at 7.45am local time before opening fire.

The motive is at this stage unclear.

The plant is where Mercedes cars such as the S-Class and EQS sedan are assembled.

Two helicopters were deployed to the scene and police cordoned off the area.

Cops managed to arrest the suspect

"One person was killed, one seriously injured. The background is still unclear. The perpetrator was arrested," said a police spokesman.

Mercedes confirmed an incident had taken place at the plant and that it was in touch with the authorities.

"We are in contact with the authorities and are trying to clarify the facts. The safety of the employees comes first," said the firm.

Mercedes is one of the world's largest car companies and has sold 2.41million passenger vehicles worldwide.

It's founder Carl Benz credited with creating the first automobile with an internal combustion engine back in 1886.

The firm also is successful in motorsport, with their F1 team led by Lewis Hamilton winning eight world constructor's titles since 2014.
