Body of missing teenager, 19, found in a river after last being seen leaving a nightclub hours earlier – as his football club pay tribute to the ‘fun-loving and kind young man’

A tragic teenager who has been found dead in a river after last being seen leaving a nightclub in Wales over the weekend, has been described as a ‘fun, loving and kind young man.’

Tom Moreton, 19, vanished after being seen outside the Vibez nightspot in Newport, Gwent, after a Saturday night out.

Police, family, and friends appealed to find Tom – but his body was found in the River Usk in the Welsh city.

Gwent Police said: ‘The body of a man was found in the River Usk in Newport at around 6.15pm on Sunday 25 June.

‘Formal identification has taken place and the man was identified as Tom Moreton, 19, from Cwmbran who was reported as missing to Gwent Police on Sunday 25 June.

‘His next of kin have been informed.

The teenager was last seen leaving Newport’s Vibez nightclub late on Saturday night 

Police say Tom’s body was discovered in the River Usk yesterday evening bringing the search to an end 

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.’

In the initial appeal, police said: ‘Tom, 19, was last seen at in Newport city centre, close to the Vibez nightclub, at around 2am on Sunday 25 June and officers are concerned for his welfare.

‘He is around 5′ 10′ tall of slim build and he was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts and grey Nike trainers with a green tick.’

Following the news of his tragic death, Tom’s local football club Croesyceiliog AFC has paid tribute to him. 

A statement reads: ‘Tom was a fun, loving and kind young man. He made us all laugh with his humour and quick comebacks. 

‘Tom was also a very talented player and he will forever be missed and loved by the players, management and committee members of Croesyceiliog AFC. 

‘Rest easy, Tom. Forever 19.’ 

Tom’s local football club has since paid tribute to his memory on social media 

Another of Tom’s close friends wrote: ‘A player that lead by example. A young man that showed great quality in everything he did. 

‘So unusual for someone so young to lead a group of boys both on and off the pitch. But that demonstrates exactly the person he was. An incredible Player. Captain. Man.’
