A 27-year-old British tourist has died after crashing into a palm tree on a motor scooter as he crossed a road at a tourist hotspot in Turkey.

The crash took place in Manavgat, Antalya province, on Turkey’s southern coast.

The man had reportedly been travelling from the beach town of Side to Kumkoy, some 30 miles away.

Photographs show the scooter lying next to the palm tree after the crash on Side Suleyman Demirel Boulevard.

Medics were called to the scene and the man was rushed to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

The tourist had reportedly lost control of the vehicle while crossing an intersection on the boulevard

But despite doctors’ best efforts, he passed away, according to Turkish media.

He had reportedly lost control of the vehicle while crossing an intersection on the boulevard, hitting the palm tree, which was located on a central reservation separating both sides of the avenue.

Side is a popular tourist destination on Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast.

It is known for its long beaches and its ancient Greek and Roman ruins, including the ruins and marble columns of a temple to the Greek goddess Athena.
