Couple leave taps on in AirBnB and use 120 tonnes of water as revenge on host

An AirBnB host was left with a bill of almost £600 after a vengeful couple left the water taps on after the homeowner said they wouldn't cancel the booking.

The couple, from China, had booked a property for a bumper 25-day stay in Seoul, South Korea, when they realised the property was on the edge of town, and not in the centre.

Because of this, they asked the host if they could cancel their reservation and they declined, as per their rights on the home sharing site.

And the South China Morning Post said the couple meted out revenge by leaving the tap running and leaving gas and lights on.

Reports stated the host declined their request as payment had already been made and the booking was confirmed, before the couple asked the host if there were surveillance cameras in the villa.

The host said there were none and that was when the couple decided to waste energy and water.

The couple then travelled to different regions of the country, returning to the villa every three to four days for no more than five minutes.

They only went to the villa on five occasions during the 25-day booking, according to SCMP.

Reports stated that the host was unaware of their actions until the gas company called to ask about the massive increase in gas consumption.

"They used 120 tonnes of water in five days," the dumfounded host said, referencing their five short visits to the home.

AirBnB reportedly told the host the matter was between him and the couple, offering no help.

However, since the couple had already left Korea, the landlord could not get in touch – leaving him to foot the bill.
