Daniel Medrano, 18, charged with murder for Westminster shooting

An 18-year-old is charged with first-degree murder in a Westminster shooting, and two teens are charged with attempted murder for their roles in a shooting near schools in Brighton.

Fatal Westminster shooting

Daniel Medrano is charged with murder for the shooting death of an 18-year-old victim in Carol Butts Park in Westminster, the Adams County District Attorney’s Office said in a Wednesday news release. The shooting happened on March 16. Medrano next court hearing is scheduled on April 20.

Shooting near Brighton schools

Jayden Garcia, 16, and Dakarei Jackson Edwards, 17, are charged as adults with five counts of attempted murder for their roles in a March 15 shooting, the DA’s office said. One victim was injured in the shooting. They are also charged with possession of a handgun by a juvenile, a misdemeanor.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired and found shell casings at 9th Avenue and Bush Street, a couple blocks north of Brighton High School, police said earlier.

Their next court appearance is scheduled on May 4.
