Dumped Love Islander Haris Namani’s father has hit out at his son’s critics, revealing he’s now ‘friends’ with the man he was filmed punching on a night out in Doncaster.

Mehedin Namani told MailOnline the footage is actually two years old, and blasted reports that his son, 21, was a ‘thug’.

Footage of the altercation surfaced overnight, with reports the video was filmed in May last year.

But Mr Namani argues the footage is not recent, as was initially reported when the footage surfaced in The Sun, adding there is now no bad blood between the two men involved.

‘This happened two years ago. They’re friends, they shook hands. This was a long time ago – it’s nothing,’ he said.

‘He’s not a bad boy, he’s got a good record. He’s been brought up in the right way. This is just people who are jealous and they want to put him down.

A friend of Haris, an amateur boxer from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, said the spat was down to a ‘misunderstanding’.

‘The kid who Haris punched is okay with with him now. It was a misunderstanding at that time. If you were speak with the kid who it was, the kid would not have anything bad to say about Haris.

‘I don’t think he would be happy about the video. He’s very known around here and he’s a few year older than Haris. And he’s a popular kid.’

In the shocking clip, Haris appeared to punch his victim while onlookers shout: ‘Go on Haris.’

It’s understood he’s now been dumped from the Island. Insiders say Haris left the villa as part of a planned eviction after a public vote and it is ‘just a coincidence that his departure came hours after the video was unearthed’

His father has not received word on whether Haris has in fact been given his marching orders.

A Love Island spokesperson said: ‘We would never comment on dumpings or show formats to avoid ruining the show for the viewers.’

The incident took place out the front of Tic Toc watch shop in Bowers Fold.

Owner Marc Taylor, 43, told MailOnline he was ‘shocked’ when he saw his store in the background of a news alert this morning.

And while the footage has sent shockwaves through the community, Mr Taylor said he was not surprised to learn there had been trouble on his corner.

He said that the area often has ‘loads of trouble’ and he has witnessed some ‘disgusting’ things on his CCTV.

On Instagram, Haris often shares snaps and videos of himself training in the boxing ring, as well as showing off his talents in his fights at Steel City Gym

‘There’s loads of trouble, especially on a weekend at night. I frequently come in on a Saturday morning and see sick all outside of the shop.

‘People are always fighting.’

Jill Carver, 54, who owns a sewing business on the same block, said she often sees people up to no good in the area.

She said: ‘There’s been times where I’ve seen broken glass and sick outside when I’ve come into work.

‘It’s all disgusting.’

She has also seen the video and has said it’s ‘upsetting’ that onlookers appear to ‘egg on’ the fight.

Ms Carver said: ‘I’ve seen the video and it’s just disgusting and so upsetting.

Haris’ departure from the show was part of a planned eviction following a public vote and it’s ‘just a coincidence’ that he left the show hours after the footage emerged, sources say

‘His friends are egging him on in the background and you can hear the person filming it shouting at him to hit him.

‘You can see the man on the floor and he’s still going at him. At the end of the day, that is someone’s son.’

A friend of Haris’ allegedly told The Sun: ‘We were all surprised when we heard Haris was going on Love Island, he’s got quite a bit of a temper on him and if someone says something he’s more than prepared to have a fight.

‘He’s got an advantage being a boxer and he knows he can cause damage because he trains four times a week, he knows what he is capable of because of his training. That kind of stuff has to stay in the ring.

‘I’m surprised ITV didn’t do further checks, I saw the row between him and Shaq and wasn’t surprised in the slightest. That’s the type of guy he is. What you see is what you get.’

It’s understood background checks are carried out before Islanders enter the show.
