Iran threatens to rapidly 'build nuclear warheads'

Iran threatens to rapidly ‘build nuclear warheads’ capable of ‘turning New York into hellish ruins’ if the US ‘makes any stupid mistakes’

  • Bisimchi Media have threatened the action and said weapons will be produced
  • In a Telegram video, the organisation said Iran will develop weapons swiftly
  • It comes after Iran said it remains optimistic about revival of nuclear deal
  • Negotiations to restore the deal began in Vienna in 2021

Iran has threatened to rapidly ‘build nuclear warheads’ capable of ‘turning New York into hellish ruins’ if the US ‘makes any stupid mistakes.’

Ben Sabti, an Iran expert, tweeted that an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) telegram channel threatened to produce atomic warhead for missiles.

The channel’s message is: ‘Iran can immediately return to Emad project and build an atomic bomb if Natanz facilities are attacked.’

The IRGC-linked Bisimchi Media (Radioman Media) posted the video on its Telegram channel titled ‘When Will Iran’s Sleeping Nuclear Warheads Awaken.’

In the short video, it is declared that Iran’s regime will develop nuclear weapons in a swift period of time ‘if the US or the Zionist regime make any stupid mistakes.’

According to Iran International, the video says that Iran’s ballistic missiles have the capability of ‘turning New York into hellish ruins’, in a reference to Iran’s space program.

The news organisation added that the video said: ‘The nuclear facilities of Fordow have been built deep under mountains of Iran and are protected against trench-busting bombs and even nuclear explosion… all infrastructures required for nuclear breakout have been prepared in it.

The regime can move its peaceful nuclear program to a nuclear weapons program at a fast pace, according to the video.

It comes after Iran said that it remains ‘optimistic’ about a possible revival of the 2015 nuclear deal after the European Union tabled a proposal aiming for a compromise in the talks stalled since March.

Foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said at his weekly news conference: ‘We remain optimistic that the negotiation process will lead us to a logical and reasonable outcome.’

His comment comes after EU foreign policy chief and coordinator of the nuclear talks between Iran and world powers, Josep Borrell, last Tuesday submitted a new draft text and urged the different sides of the negotiations to accept it or ‘risk a dangerous nuclear crisis.’

The negotiations to restore the deal began in Vienna in April 2021 but have stalled since March amid differences between Tehran and Washington on several issues.

Negotiations occurred indirectly, through the European Union coordinator, in a bid to bring the US back into the deal and lift sanctions on Iran, on the basis that Tehran  would return to its nuclear commitments.

There were also indirect talks hosted by Qatar at the end of June between the United States and Iran in a bid to get the Vienna process back on track, but those discussions broke up after two days without any breakthrough.

The US government has classified the IRGC as a foreign terrorist entity.

Mr Borrell said that the draft text includes ‘hard-won compromises by all sides’ and addresses, in precise detail, the sanctions lifting as well as the nuclear steps needed to restore’ the 2015 pact.

Mr Kanani said: ‘The Iranian side has carefully reviewed the text and presented its views.

Foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani, pictured, said at his weekly news conference that Iran remains confident about the negotiations reaching a logical and reasonable outcome

‘It is possible that in the near future we can reach a conclusion regarding the timetable for the negotiations.

He added: ‘We will probably see a new round of negotiations’ but he noted that ‘it depends entirely on the willingness of the other side, especially the American side.’

Mr Kanani said: ‘Washington must show that it is ready for a reasonable, logical and lasting agreement.’

The agreement made in 2015 gave Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its atomic programme to guarantee that it could not develop a nuclear weapon- something it has always denied seeking.

But after the US withdrew from the accord in 2018 under-then president Donald Trump, and Washington’s reimposition of biting economic sanctions, prompted Iran to begin rolling back on its own commitments.

Since then, Iran has increased the levels of uranium enrichment, reaching the level of 60 per cent, far above the limit of 3.67 per cent set in the deal.

Deputy head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation Behrouz Kamalavandi told state TV on Monday evening that the organisation has started feeding gas into ‘hundreds’ of new centrifuges, including the advanced IR-6.

Mr Kamalavandi added that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) ‘had already been notified of this action’, without specifying what percentage the enrichment would be.

In July, the IAEA reported that Tehran had started ‘feeding… a cascade of… centrifuges’ at a fuel enrichment plant.

These techniques facilitate the process and would make it easier for Iran to switch to a different level of enriching uranium.
