Knifeman lunges at parents & kids in frenzied daylight attack as 'dad throws himself over daughter to protect her' | The Sun

A KNIFEMAN lunged at parents and their kids in a "frenzied" daylight attack.

One dad threw himself over his daughter to protect her from the blade during the brutal assault in Leicester last summer.

The 25-year-old was stabbed several times while lying on top of the child on August 19, LeicestershireLive reports.

He was rushed to hospital with a fractured skull and serious injuries to one of his arms.

Another man, 32, was slashed on the arm and hand while carrying his son.

Neither youngster was hurt.

Assailant Kameron Grant-Smith, 29, fled the scene in Bay Street shortly after the "vicious" ambush.

Yesterday, at Leicester Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He will be sentenced on Friday.

The court heard how police traced an abandoned vehicle to Grant-Smith, who had hired it from a rental firm that morning.

He was located at an address in Market Harborough the following day.

Detective Constable Katherine Dabrowska of Leicestershire Police said: "Grant-Smith carried out a vicious and frenzied attack on two men, in broad daylight, while they were with their children.

"After committing the offence, he fled the scene and abandoned the car in an attempt to avoid being caught.

"Following quick police work, Grant-Smith was identified as the person responsible for the attack and he was located at an address the next day.

"I am pleased he has at now admitted his actions and the families can begin to move past this traumatic event."

A 23-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released with no further action.
