Man, 45, slammed ‘disgusting’ for running red light and narrowing hitting child

This is the terrifying moment a reckless driver running a red light narrowly missed a schoolboy on a bike.

Dashcam video posted on Facebook by the police shows the boy stopping his bicycle mid-way crossing the road.

Viewers were enraged and blasted the driver's behaviour after watching the near-miss incident unfolded.

The clip showed a few cyclists making their way across the road when a pedestrian light turned green.

As a young boy approached the safety island, he made a quick stop right before a grey Mazda convertible sports car sped past the red light.

The driver nearly crashed to the boy and he pulled a hard brake and turned right to a small round.

Swindon Police said the man has since been fined after a hearing on Friday, October 7.

They said: "Jody New, 45, of Harbour Close, Swindon, pleaded guilty to careless driving at a hearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on October 7.

"On April 28, New drove through the traffic lights on Peglars Way near The Deanery Academy at speed, narrowly missing a student when the red light had been showing for around three seconds.

"Hethen screeched around the corner.

"New has been given a fine of £307, £34 victim surcharge, £110 costs to Wiltshire Police and his licence endorsed with six points.

"We’d like to thank the member of the public who came forward to report the incident and for the dashcam footage."

Viewers, however, said the man should have his driving licence removed.

One said: "Bear in mind he made a conscious decision to jump the red light and endanger a child's life. Why wasn't this dangerous driving?"

A second commented: "He didn't narrowly miss the child, the child was so switched on that he saved his own life! Absolutley pathetic punishment."
